Summer Update #1June 2013
Greetings!

I know that it has only been a few weeks since our last update, but so much is upcoming in the world of technology. First, I realize that the signature was not updated. Danielle was Executive Director in the past, I am her replacement, Kelly Boehmer. I was formerly your President-Elect and look forward to continuing to serve the organization.

I realize that the conference link was not working for the NJSBA conference proposals. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1vsF4Sd3uCeWVLRs7kdvwlzKhXm5j2bYGLLSDxhkAx5E/viewform?edit_requested=true I have included the link and have double checked it's functionality. Sorry for any inconvenience this oversight has caused.

We will be looking for presenters for our conference during the next few months as well. Please keep an eye out for the proposal form which I anticipate having out in the next two weeks.

Please do not forget to register!! Registration ended June 30th. If you did not renew at the conference, please remeber to do so this summer or in September through your school!!

 HERE IS THE LINK!
Check it out!! Google Blocky

Google has released a completely visual programming language that lets you build software without typing a single character. Now available on Google Code - the company's site for hosting open source software - the new language is called Google Blockly, and it's reminiscent of Scratch, a platform developed at MIT that seeks to turn even young children into programmers.
Site: https://code.google.com/p/blockly/

Check out the applications:
  • Maze - Use Blockly to solve a maze.
  • Turtle - Drawing with Blockly.
  • Graph - Blockly's graphing calculator.
  • Code - Export a Blockly program into JavaScript, Python or XML.

The content of this one day course is designed to ensure secondary school teachers are aware of the major changes and updates to the school-sponsored SLE training courses and requirements. This course specifically discusses updates to federal worksite safety and health laws and regulations, federal and state wage and hour and child labor laws, regulations, and hazardous orders governing minors in the workplace and provides an update on available NJ Safe Schools resources.

The target audience is teachers who took our SLE trainings a few years ago and would like updated information, administrators who supervises SLE coordinators and would like to learn more about these programs and also for CTE teachers who were grandfathered in and never required to take the SLE trainings. The class costs $90 and breakfast, lunch, a variety of handouts and 7PDUs are offered. Registration information can be found here:

Whether it's providing educators with funding, best-practice ideas, support, or accolades, everything we do is designed to help students achieve more. After all, students who are better engaged are more likely to succeed, and students who succeed are more likely to go on to do great things. The way we see it, together with our partners, our funders, the educators, and the communities and students we serve, we're investing in a brighter future
