2013 Global STEMx Education Conference

The Global 2013 STEMx Education Conference is the world's first massively open online conference for educators which focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and more.

The conference will be held online, around the clock, over the course of three days, September 19 - 21, 2013, and will be free to attend! Our founding sponsor is HP, and core conference support also comes from the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).

STEMxCon will be a highly inclusive and engaging event that will encourage primary, secondary, and tertiary (K-16) students and educators around the world to share and learn about innovative approaches to STEMx learning and teaching. Register at http://www.STEMxCon.com to be kept informed, and check out the conference information and menu links to the left and at the top of each page.

For further updates, please join the STEMxCon network and follow the conference hashtag #stemxcon, the STEMxCon Twitter account, and the STEMxCon Facebook page.

Edcamp STEAM

Edcamps are "unconferences," FREE, participant-driven professional development events where the attendees set the schedule and lead the sessions, which are conversations - NOT presentations. S.T.E.A.M. stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math (a variant of "STEM"). Edcamp S.T.E.A.M. is an unconference for K-12 educators exploring the intersection of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math. We are planning an incredible event full of rich discussions, cool demonstrations, plenty of hands-on learning and more. Join us on Wednesday, July 31 at Linwood Middle School in North Brunswick, New Jersey!

ITEEA & TSA Unite to Promote TEAMS

The International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA) has announced that it will partner with the Technology Student Association (TSA) in promoting one of TSA's premiere STEM competitions for students.

The TEAMS (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science) program is a one-day, annual STEM competition challenging students to work collaboratively and apply their math and science knowledge in practical, creative ways to solve real everyday engineering challenges. After participating in TEAMS, students increase their knowledge of engineering, feel more confident about participating in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) activities, and increase their ability to work with others to solve complex problems. The program has been in existence for 35 years.

Focused on a theme each year, original academic and innovative concepts are developed for the TEAMS competition based on the National Academy of Engineering's Grand Challenges. Tackling these challenges requires critical job-readiness skills such as collaboration, analytical thinking, and multidimensional problem solving. The theme for TEAMS 2014 is "Engineering Tomorrow's Cities."

Working in a written competition format, teams of four to eight students compete for competition day, division, and state awards. More information about the TEAMS program can be found at http://teams.tsaweb.org/ .

TSA will offer a discount on this STEM-based student competition to ITEEA members and EngineeringbyDesign™ participants.

The International Technology and Engineering Educators Association is the professional organization for technology, innovation, design, and engineering educators. Its mission is to promote technological literacy for all by supporting the teaching of technology and engineering and promoting the professionalism of those engaged in these pursuits. ITEEA strengthens the profession through leadership, professional development, membership services, publications, and classroom activities. For more information about ITEEA, visit the website at www.iteea.org.

The Technology Student Association fosters personal growth, leadership, and opportunities in technology, innovation, design, and engineering. Members apply and integrate science, technology, engineering and mathematics concepts through co-curricular activities, competitive events and related programs. For more information about TSA, visit the website at www.tsaweb.org.

Pre-Engineering Camp - TCNJ

At the NJTEEA Annual Conference, Keynote Speaker, Dr. Steve O'Brien talked about the need to recruit more students in to T&E teaching.  As a way to help in this area, TCNJ is offering a Pre-Engineering Teacher Academy for High School Students.  The Academy is ~1 week long and is residential (students stay in TCNJ dormitory rooms).  Activities cover Technology and Engineering design activities, as well as how to teach these activities.

For more information see http://technologicalstudies.pages.tcnj.edu/about/summer-teacher-academy/, or contact Michele Ordini at 609-771-2295 or ordini@tcnj.edu.

Congratulations to NJTEEA Members Richard Bettini and His Student Andrew Spero!

Mr. Richard Bettini is proud to announce that one of his Upper Level CAD Drafting students, Andrew Spero, has placed West Essex Regional High School (Caldwell NJ) in the TOP TEN Finalists in the Discover Design National Architectural Competition sponsored by the Chicago Architectural Foundation.  The competition was specifically geared to challenge high school students to redesign their high school Library. Andrew did an exceptional project!  Please click on this link to find out more about the Discover Design Architectural Competition and see Andrew's and other 9 finalists' work:  http://discoverdesign.org/
