New Report on Arts in Corrections Includes SMAC program at New Folsom Prison
In 2013, SMAC facilitated a poetry class for inmates in New Folsom Prison, led by poet JoAnn Anglin, as part of a research project spearheaded by the William James Association and California Lawyers for the Arts. The findings of the study - which included 110 inmates across the state - were recently announced. Among these findings was evidence that prison fine arts programs provide authentic learning experiences that engage the minds and hearts of the incarcerated and change behavior. Arts for Any Given Child 94 schools looking forward to arts experience
Actors, dancers, musicians and visual artists are gearing up to bring the arts alive for K-8th grade students during another season of school assemblies, workshops and field trips provided by Arts for Any Given Child. A program of the Friends of the Arts Commission, this collaboration with school districts and arts organizations allows each of the schools in Twin Rivers, Sacramento City and Robla School Districts to choose from a roster of events offered by 17 regional arts organizations. Joan Mondale Dies at 83; Merged Politics with Art Joan was the wife of Vice President Walter Mondale
Joan Mondale, whose promotion and advocacy of painting, sculpture and other fine arts earned her the nickname Joan of Art in Washington during the vice presidency of her husband, Walter F.
