Greetings!
T.S. Eliot wrote in "The Waste Land" that "April is the cruelest month, breeding/ Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing/ Memory and desire, stirring/ Dull roots with spring rain." I don't know if April is the cruelest month, but I'll certainly say that as National Poetry Month in the US it absolutely breeds Lilacs out of the dead land and stirs dull roots with spring rain. As we make our way from winter into spring and catapult ourselves into a new season and toward summer, what better time to enjoy the poetry of our region and our country.
To find some of the wonderful events happening you can check out any of the following websites and spaces. Obviously, the Sacramento Poetry Center has many events scheduled and you can find those at their website. Also, a new events producer in town, Gerald Hickman, of Leo Events, is producing four phenomenal Friday night events throughout the month at Railbridge Cellars. Or, to find a comprehensive list of readings throughout the county check out the Sacramento News & Review, Sac 365, and Eskimopie.net for listings sure to get you interested in poetry or interested in a new poet. Also, don't just sit back and listen-bring one or two of your own poems out to read at an open mic. Whatever your taste, you're sure to find something to please you. So, don't forget to get out and see something during the month of April. Thanks for helping to make National Poetry Month a success in Sacramento and for offering momentum to our literary arts for the coming year.
