"Many aging people realize ever more strongly that all they have achieved has been collaborative and communal."

John Caddy, 2012 Distinguished Artist, McKnight Foundation

Greetings!

Happy 2013!  We are 3 days into the new year and I can't help but think of time passing as I look back and look forward.

We are indebted to the many individuals, arts organizations, schools, businesses, elected officials, and State, City and County staff members over this past year who worked with the Arts Commission to produce workshops and classes, commission public artworks, produce exhibitions, advise us on policy, market and survey the arts, teach the arts, and fund the arts.   Despite a fragile economy, today the arts community is stronger --- stronger because of imaginative problem solving, resourcefulness, inventive collaborations and partnerships, hard work, and in at least once case the merger of two major art organizations. Be sure there is more hard work ahead, but I am looking forward to working with all of you in 2013 to create an even healthier Sacramento arts community.

I'm delighted to announce that 2013 brings 3 new and esteemed community members to the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission -- Doni Blumenstock, Rebecca Garrison, and Malathi Srinivasan, --- each adding unique skills and expertise to the Commission.  Read more>
