Fourth-quarter GDP to expand by over 4% 

 

Peru's gross domestic product (GDP) in the last quarter of 2015 will grow by more than 4% and will contribute to the total expansion of the year, thanks to the rebound in primary sectors such as mining and fisheries, Production Minister Piero Ghezzi projected.

Between December 2013 and April 20 2015, 500 bureaucratic barriers have been removed in Lima leading to produce savings worth US$415 million, the Finance Ministry announced.

Southern Copper CEO Oscar Gonzalez Rocha said the company could extend a 60-day pause at its stalled $1.4 billion Tia Maria project in the southern Peruvian province of Islay to allow more time to clear up local residents' doubts about its environmental impact.


Enag�s (Madrid) has reached an agreement to acquire 3.94% of Transportadora de Gas del Per� (TGP; Lima) from SK Innovation (Seoul) and 0.40% from Corporaci�n Financiera de Inversiones (Lima), for $97 million, Enag�s has announced . Following this transaction, Enag�s will become TGP's second-largest shareholder with a 24.34% stake.

Alternative Development



A licit, sustainable and profitable alternative will be put in place to convert 1,452 hectares of coca crops into cocoa, coffee and pineapple areas.

Peru's capital, Lima, will become the most visited city in Latin America in 2015, receiving almost 4.2 million tourists. It represents almost double the amount of visitors to be received by the 2nd destination (Mexico City), according to Mastercard's 2014 Global Destination Cities Index.

Peru, Brazil's first oppenents at the Copa America, were held to a 1-1 draw by Mexico as preparations for this summer's tournament pick up pace.

Peru were hosting the Mexicans and home advantage seemed to count as they dominated proceedings. They finally got the breakthrough in the 62nd minute through Jefferson Farfan but Mexico then hit back fifteen minutes later with a Juan Carlos Valenzuela header.
