Three restaurants in the capital of Peru make this year's list of the world's 50 best restaurants - equal to the number chosen from New York City or all of Italy.

The Lima restaurant Central Restaurante, run by chef Virgilio Martinez, soared to No. 4 on the 2015 list, from 50 in 2013. (It was ranked 15th last year.) It taps into the trend of all things local, but its twist is what it calls "vertical ecological monitoring," or focusing on flora and fauna from different altitudes and climates.

Economy & Trade

Between December 2013 and April 20 2015, 500 bureaucratic barriers have been removed in Lima leading to produce savings worth US$415 million, the Finance Ministry announced.
 

Mining & Energy



Electricity Production is estimated to have increased by 5.4% in May, 2015 compared to the same month in 2014, and projected to maintain a sustained growth rate of over 5% for third month in arrow, the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCR) reported.


Spanish natural gas transportation company Enagas said Tuesday it increased its stake in Transportadora de Gas del Peru, or TgP, which owns a pipeline in the Andean nation, from 20 percent to 24.35 percent.


PeruPetro is in dispute with Anglo-Dutch oil firm Shell over royalties related to the export of seven Peruvian liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes last year, the regulator said, adding it hoped to reach a deal soon or would resort to arbitration.


The head of Cajamarca's regional environmental authority and Bishop have both called on the central government to act following the tragic death of two young miners at La Chilca.

Counter-Narcotics


The U.S. Department of the Treasury's list that identifies the Shining Path (a.k.a. Sendero Luminoso) as a significant foreign narcotics trafficker recognizes Peru's efforts to combat narco-terrorism, Peru's Interior Minister Jose Luis Perez Guadalupe affirmed.

Defense


Peru's Defense Minister Jakke Valakivi, high-level Armed Forces officers and Devida Executive President Alberto Otarola paid a visit to the Madre de Dios region, in order to supervise anti-drug flight radar operations.

Human Rights


A United Nations working group arrived in Lima this week to gather information on forced and involuntary disappearance cases in the country.

The 10-day mission is led by human rights experts Ariel Dulitzky and Houria Es-Slami, who will also be studying the measures adopted by the State to prevent and eradicate the practice of forced disappearances.

Conservation



The head of Puno's regional conservation network, Chambi Cutipa Francisco has told Andina that 19 new areas have been set aside for protection.

Mr Francisco said the areas were based on good science and on the recommendations of Sernanp, Peru's national parks service.

 




Gastronomy



Three restaurants having been included in the World's 50 Best Restaurants list elaborated by the British Restaurant magazine is the "natural outcome" of the solid positioning achieved by the Peruvian gastronomy in the world, Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva affirmed.
