Li's visit to Latin America draws attention to Twin Ocean Railroad Connection project

 

During Premier Li's visit to Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Chile, a series of agreements will besigned. Among those agreements signed is a memorandum of understanding betweenPeru, China and Brazil to build a cross-continental railroad linking Peru's Pacific coastwith Brazil's Atlantic coast. The project is called the Twin Ocean Railroad Connection.


Economy & Trade

Peruvian economy will dynamize gradually in the second half of the current year and lead towards a stronger recovery, since domestic and seasonal shocks affecting primary sectors are "abating," Moody's Sovereign Group affirmed today.
 

Mining & Energy


Peru's Minister of Energy and Mines, Rosa Maria Ortiz, has reaffirmed the State is committed to boost and support environmental socially responsible investment in mining, since such sector leads the economy of the country.


Public debates on Tia Maria mining project are aimed at clearing up doubts and wrong information spread regarding it, which generated a tension climate in the area, Peru's Environment Minister Manuel Pulgar-Vidal affirmed.
Investments


 

The government enacted the Investments Promotion for Economic Growth and Sustainable Development Law (N� 30327), which establishes the simplification and integration of permits and procedures.
 



The investments will be allocated for agriculture, health, education, basic sanitation, road construction, among other sectors in the Peruvian central jungle.

Environment



 The United Nations today launched NAZCA: a "new and revamped" web portal designed to encourage companies, investors, cities, and regions to cut their emissions and adapt to climate change.

NAZCA stands for Non-State Actor Zone for Climate Action.

Indigenous Groups



One step has been taken in order to preserve and support the native language of Awaj�n. Marking Cultural Diversity Day, the Bilingual Awaj�n Civil Registry is being launched today in order to provide recording services to more than 70,000 speakers of the language, reports El Comercio. 



The 5,000 inhabitants of this Quechua-speaking region in Peru's top cocaine-producing valley on Thursday got health care, medicine, eyeglasses and shoes from two mobile hospitals sent by the country's military.



Diplomacy



Chinese Premier Li Keqiang today will start his two-day official visit to Peru, during which bilateral strategic partnership will be enhanced while meeting with Peruvian President Ollanta Humala Tasso.


The upcoming visit of Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang to Peru is of particular significance for bilateral relations, which have been lifted to comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, Chinese Ambassador to Lima Huang Minhui said.


The Peruvian and Kuwaitian parliaments are scheduled to sign bilateral cooperation agreements, after they met to discuss strengthening bilateral ties today, reports Andina news agency.

The Kuwait delegation was composed of members Yousef S.H Al Zalzalah, Saif M. Al Azmi, Abdullah Yousef Al Mayouf y Abdullah Mohammad Al Traiji.



Ambassador Mykhalchuk has led Ukraine's diplomatic representation in Peru since March 2013. Both countries have diplomatic relations since the independence of Ukraine in 1991, following the break-up of the Soviet Union. Since then, Ukraine and Peru have signed twenty-five bilateral agreements on a number of important areas, such as: trade and commercial relations, military and technical cooperation, educational, scientific and technological cooperation, among others.

Tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Municipal Theatre "Daniel Estrada P�rez", the Symphony Orchestra of Cusco will be offering a gala concert to be accompanied by the director of the National Symphony Orchestra of Peru (NSO), Fernando Valc�rcel.

A generation ago, the Maoist guerillas seemed capable of toppling the government but are now largely confined to a remote pocket of jungle known as the Apur�mac-Ene-Mantaro River Valley (VRAEM). But that happens to be a top coca cultivation zone, affording the insurgency access to funds. Now, authorities claim to have uncovered evidence that the neo-Senderistas are in league with one of the re-organized Colombian cocaine cartels, ironically known as the "Cafeteros" (coffee-producers).
