Agriculture

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services is proposing to amend the fruits and vegetable regulations to allow citrus fruit from the entire country of Peru into the continental United States.  Currently, the regulations allow the importation of citrus fruit to the United States from five approved citrus-producing zones in Peru, subject to a systems approach.  However, based on the findings of a pest list and commodity import evaluation document, APHIS has determined that this systems approach also mitigates the plant pest risk associated with citrus fruit produced in all other areas of Peru.  Comments are due June 30.

Gastronomy

Things I love about Ceviche Old St: it has the feeling of Peru. I've only been to Cuba and the rest I've learnt off the telly, but it's just what I imagine: a lot of classic, mahogany-coloured furniture in unfussy, traditional shapes, in a spacious, easy-going dining room, putting you in mind of summer heat and spontaneous trumpet playing. It wasn't hot, but it put me in a good mood anyway.
