It is one of the world's biggest producers of base and precious metals.

Currently, it is the third largest producer of copper and zinc in the world. Peru is also a major producer of gold, silver, among other minerals.

Gastronomy

Settle into a long shared table on the second level of the quirky split-level Pollos a la Brasa El Chalan, and the scent of cumin and smoke is intoxicating. All that aroma is coming from a battle-worn stainless steel oven, which you can see through a small kitchen window, holding rows of rotating golden chickens on spits over crackling charcoals. These birds - pollos a la brasa - are the specialty of the house, and one of Peru's most beloved dishes. This is East Boston, but you might as well be in a village in the Andes.
