Latin America would have posted 1.2% growth last year, whereas Peru's 2014 GDP doubled it at 2.4%, reported Peru's Finance Minister Alonso Segura.

Peru's government expects to lead all Latin American economies with a growth rate of at least 4 percent in 2015, Economy and Finance Minister Alonso Segura said Saturday.
"The most pessimistic estimates by reputable institutions, such as the International Monetary Fund, project that Peru will grow 4 percent in 2015. That's not a crisis. The situation in the region is complicated, but we have to redouble our efforts to sustain our growth rates," Segura told Radio Programas del Peru.

 Tahoe Resources Inc. agreed to buy Rio Alto Mining Ltd. for about C$1.35 billion ($1.09 billion) to add the La Arena mine in Peru in the gold industry's biggest takeover in almost 10 months. The cash-and-stock offer is valued at C$4 a share, or 22 percent more than Vancouver-based Rio Alto's Feb. 6 closing share price, both companies said Monday in a statement.

 Peru presented its first KT-1P plane co-produced and manufactured in Lima today, after an agreement with South Korea that plans to give the country 20 new planes. An agreement with South Korea's Aerospace Industries and the Peruvian government has granted Peru a total of 20 planes to be built, 16 of which will be co-produced here in the country.

 Jennifer Logan's relatives say they are hoping test results will reveal why she died at a retreat in Peru after drinking a concoction called "tobacco purge tea." The Canadian woman died at the retreat outside the city of Puerto Maldonado on Jan. 17 after drinking the tea, meant to provide a spiritual cleanse through purging, during a ceremony with a shaman.
