Foreign Trade and Tourism minister. Magali Silva, highlighted today the advancement made by Small- and Micro Enterprises in non-traditional exports.

"Sales have registered sales worth some US$1.6 billion," she told the official El Peruano newspaper.
Unlike traditional exports, such as minerals, which depend on international prices -which have lowered- the government has supported the private enterprise with an "open market strategy" and an "easing exporting process."
Economy & Trade


Peru's net international reserves stood at US$ 62.3 billion at the end of December, 2014, achieving an important level and contributing to the protection of the economy, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) said on Saturday.
 



The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported the volume of consumer goods imported into Peru grew by 4.8 percent in November 2014, due to higher purchases of durables and non-durables.

Similarly, the country's purchase of raw materials and intermediates surged 4.6 percent.


The Peruvian state recorded a ninth trade deficit of US$ 253 million under, according to the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCR).

From Jan. to Nov. of 2014, the BCR recorded an accumulated deficit of US$ 2.7 billion. In 2013, during the same period, a deficit of US$ 699 million was experienced.


 

Mining & Energy

 



Peru has a portfolio of mining projects estimated at US$61.2 billion of investment for projects with an approved Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) or those under evaluation, as well as for exploration projects, said the Minister of Energy and Mines, Eleodoro Mayorga.
 



The measures, taken by the government and aimed at decreasing the gas prices paid by final consumers, will enable Peruvian families and corporations save a year amount worth S/.3.00 billion (US$1.00 billion), forecasted the Finance and Economy Ministry. 
 



The decrease of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) oil price, to around US$50, represents its lowest level registered (46.5%), if compared to last year, which will benefit productive key sectors in Peru, said the Lima Chamber of Commerce's (CCL) Institute of Economy and Entrepreneurial Development (IEDEP).
 

Agriculture



Peru is on track to replace the top avocado exporter Mexico, as the second-largest exporter of Hass avocados to the United States in 2014, according to Pachamama, the Agricultural Weekly Paper of Peru's Embassy to the United States.
 

 




Gastronomy



The cocktail list at Se�or Ceviche concentrates, naturally, on pisco. Exporters of the stuff have been hoping for a pisco revolution that would make it as popular overseas as gin or vodka, but despite predictions in some precincts of the press for years and years, it hasn't happened. 

Tourism



The prestigious American newspaper The New York Times' Travel site highlights "The North Coast of Peru" as one of its "Top 52 Places to Go in 2015".

"Untrammeled oases beckon, once-avoided destinations become must-sees and familiar cities offer new reasons to visit," says the website.



Peru has been selected by CTRIP, China's most popular travel agency, the winner of the "Best Potential Tourist Destination" Award.
This award is the result of the tourism promotion strategy conducted and policy developed through the accredited diplomatic missions in China (Peruvian Embassy and different consulates).
Culture



The Huaca Pucllana Museum received its 90,000th visitor on 31th December, informed the Miraflores District Municipality.


It was informed the exhibition of Mummy Juanita held at Santuarios Andinos Museum located in Peru's Southern Arequipa region, will be closed between January 1 and April 31 2015, in order to carry out its preservation process. 

Sports



Education Minister Jaime Saavedra today announced the government of Peru has ratified its commitment to hosting the 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games in the capital city Lima, as decided on October 11, 2013 in Toronto, Canada.


The 2019 Pan American Games in Lima will be staged between July 26 and August 10, Jos� Qui�ones, President of the Peruvian Olympic Committee (COP), has announced.
Addressing a meeting of the Pan American Association of Sports Confederations (ACODEPA) in the Mexican beach resort of Puerto Vallarta, Qui�ones also disclosed that a 37-sport programme was in prospect, consisting of the 36 sports to be contested this July at Toronto 2015, plus pelota.


Lima will host the 10th edition of the South American Golf Amateur Championship.
The tournament is considered one of the most important events in the region.
It will be held from January 22 - 25 this year at the Lima Golf Club.
Miscellaneous



The warm weather (26 Celsius Degrees) led on Sunday many Lima inhabitants to reach the beaches located in the city for rest and recreation purposes. 
Beach, such as: Agua Dulce (Sweet Water) and others located nearby hosted thousands of Lime�os and their relatives, enabled those to enjoy the sunshine.

Alberto Fujimori, President of Peru between 1990 and 2000, was handed down an eight-year prison sentence yesterday, found guilty of embezzlement.

Fujimori was convicted for unlawfully transferring S/.122 million ($41 mn) from Armed Forces funds to the National Intelligence office, to buy the editorial line of several daily tabloid newspapers in the build-up to the presidential re-election in 2000.
