Grapes have become Peru's leading agricultural export in value terms, with shipments rising by 59.1 per cent between January and November 2014 to reach US$450.3m, according to figures from exporter association Adex.

Hong Kong was the biggest market, totally US$74.6m, an increase of 174 per cent compared to the same period of 2013. This was followed by China (US$72m) and the Netherlands in third place. Other important markets were North America, the UK, Russia, Thailand, Indonesia, Colombia and South Korea amongst others, Adex said.

Economy & Trade


Formal employment grew by 1.5% on November 2014 at private enterprises, located in Peru's urban places, which employ 10 or more workers.

The amount means a consecutive 60-month-expansion, announced the Labor Ministry.
Mining & Energy


Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) issued a series of regulations aimed at boosting mining projects investment through the simplification of procedures, shorter deadlines as well as standardization and flexibility of criteria when requesting construction and operating permits at all stages of mining activity.
 

Fishing



The Ministry of Production announced the second season of anchovy will not begin as expected due to the unstable environment, over-fishing, and a large juvenile population.

The ministry, PRODUCE, refuses to allow fishing until the fish return to a healthy, mature population. Focusing on the northern-central coastlines, the ministry warns that "until the environmental conditions have returned to normal," fishing season is halted.

Diplomacy


The fact that the Organization of American States (OAS) has recognized the country's willingness to embrace dialogue as a strategy for resolution of conflicts is seen as an achievement of the Office of National Dialogue and Sustainability (ONDS) by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) of Peru.
 




Gastronomy



The Landmark Mandarin OrientalHong Kong is all geared to welcome Peruvian chef Diego Munoz, the head chef of Astrid y Gaston to host the first pop up restaurant from 19th to 21st January 2015. The Tian and Di function rooms at the Mandarin will play host to the Peruvian spread of an 8 course food and wine pairing dinner.
This head chef has coveted titles under his belt. His restaurant was recently awarded the second place Latin America's 50 Best restaurants and 18th place on the World's best Restaurant List in 2014. Diego has learnt his culinary skills in Spain, Paris, Sydney and Canada. 

Tourism



The first rays of morning sunlight illuminate the great stone altar, streaming through a square opening over my head. "Inti camac sumac," chants the priest. Soaked in sweat, I fight the bindings holding me to the stone as the grinning, looming, scarlet-cloaked figure slowly brings down a gleaming, bloodstained bronze knife toward my heaving chest. 

Culture



Peru's Culture Minister Diana Alvarez Calderon assured the new National Museum of Peru will be ready to open its doors to the public some time between April and May, 2016.
 


Minister of Culture, Diana Alvarez Calderon said the Nazca Lines archaeologist will be fired after evidence surfaced revealing he led a foreign journalist into protected areas of the archaeological site last year.

Recorded evidence by a Japanese reporter illustrates the journalist lying on the ground, just a foot from the lines on either side of him. These are protected areas and the reporter should have been prohibited from entering the territory.

Sports



Peruvian Diego Elias became the official champion of the British Junior Open 2015 championship held in Sheffield (UK).
The Peruvian beat Egyptian Omar El Atmas 3 - 0 (15-13; 11-2; 11-3) at the world's most important tournament after the U-19 World Open. 


The Peruvian Karate delegation is getting ready to participate in the 2015 Pan American Championship to be held in Toronto (Canada), which could lead Peru to obtain a qualifying spot for the 2015 Toronto Pan American Games. 
On March 19 - 22, our athletes will fight for the four available spots divided among the female and male categories.
Miscellaneous


Peru drugs mule Michaella McCollum's repatriation to a Northern Ireland jail has been given the go-ahead by the head of the prison service in Belfast.

All necessary paperwork has been sent to Peruvian authorities considering the application for transfer, a letter from the Northern Ireland Prison Service (NIPS) disclosed.
