Peru will host the 10th Presidential Summit of the Pacific Alliance, the Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the World Bank Group (WGB) and the International Monetary Fund, highlighted Peruvian Foreign Affairs minister, Gonzalo Gutierrez.

Peru's President Ollanta Humla highlighted today the government registered a "historic record" by executing S/. 32 billion (about US$10.95 billion) of its budget resources in 2014.
This represents a 7% growth compared to its similar period in 2013.

Power plants developer Rurelec has begun commercial operations of the 5.3MW hydroelectric plant in Peru.
Owned by Rurelec's 93% indirect subsidiary Empresa de Generacion Electrica Canchayllo, the Canchayllo power plant is located in Junin Province and is one of six small hydro developments undertaken by Rurelec.

Compania Minera Rio Sol today announced a significant rare earth element and poly-metallic claim discovery in Peru, with reports indicating the 10-kilometer claim as among the largest rare earth claims in Peru containing both light rare earth elements and heavy rare earth elements and metals.
Third-party geology and geochemical analysis indicates the claim is the largest in Peru, with further exploration warranted to further delineate the size and scale of the claim.
Currently, approximately 90-95 percent of rare earth elements are located in China.

Peruvian grapes exports in the January - November 2014 period totaled US$450.3 million. This represents a 59.1% growth if compared to its similar period in 2013, affirmed the Association of Peruvian Exporters (ADEX).

Nearly 175,000 domestic and foreign tourists, mostly backpackers, reached the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu using the Inca Trail, reported the National Service of Protected Natural Areas by the State (Sernanp).

Two 5-star hotels will be built in the Historical Center of Arequipa this year. The corresponding investments have been calculated to be worth more than US$ 10 million, announced Alfredo Venero, Foreign Trade and Tourism manager of the Regional Government of Arequipa.
The hotels will be located at colonial houses. The investing hotel chains have already initiated the pertinent arrangements at the Regional Culture Direction, in order to obtain the permit needed to concretize the hostelling proposals. It must be noted Arequipa's Historical Center was declared a Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

Archaeologists say they've found the highest-known remains of Ice Age human settlements in the southern Peruvian Andes, dated to more than 12,000 years old. The two sites, described in the journal Science, sit higher than 4,000 meters above sea level and indicate that humans may have adapted to the extremely harsh climate far sooner than many researchers had expected.
