A total of 29 percent of chief executives (CEOs) of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) forum will increase their investment in Peru and Chile, reported PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
 

Economy & Trade


Public investment in Peru maintained its upward trend as at 4 November 2014, setting a historical record of S/. 22.037 billion (about US$7.5 billion), Peru's Finance Ministry (MEF) reported.
 



APEC-belonging countries approving a roadmap, designed to promote the Free Trade Area of the Asia Pacific (FTAAP) Creation Process, has been considered "a decision to be written is History books," Chinese President, Xi Jinping, said on Tuesday.
 



The business confidence index dropped one point in October to 53 points. Despite the slight decline, this indicator is still within the optimistic range, suggesting that employers expect some improvement in the economic situation in the coming months.

Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines has formally awarded the concession for the 600MW Chadin 2 hydroelectric plant to Odebrecht. 

Agriculture


Peruvian mango exports increased by 27.2 per cent in the first eight months of 2014 to US$119.9m, according to exporter association Adex.

The leading export destination for Peruvian mangoes is the Netherlands (US$44.6m), followed by the US (US$39.2m). Adex noted that "85 per cent of the total mango production is concentrated in Piura," a northwestern city of Peru.

Defense


First consignment of military transport helicopters of the Mi-171Sh family will be delivered to Peru before the end of this year, Alexander Mikheyev, the Director General of the Vertolyoty Rossii (Russian Helicopters) holding company told TASS on the sidelines of the 10th Airshow China'2014 international aerospace show in Zhuhai.
 


Environment & COP20



Leonardo DiCaprio will be attending COP 20, the Lima Climate Change Conference in December, diplomatic sources have told Peru this Week.

Peru this Week can reveal that the environmental activist and actor Leonardo DiCaprio will be participating in COP 20, along with other television personalities and politicians, such as Al Gore.



Nearly a billion tons of carbon in Peru's rainforests is at risk from logging, infrastructure projects, and oil and gas extraction, yet opportunities remain to conserve massive amounts of forest in indigenous territories, parks, and unprotected areas, finds a study published this week in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).


As an Amazonian country, Peru knew it was doing the world an environmental service by storing carbon in its rainforest. But the country didn't know exactly how much carbon it was keeping out of the atmosphere nor precisely where it was. That hindered its ability to protect its reserves as well as negotiate a fair price for doing so on the global carbon market.
Diplomacy



Peruvian President Ollanta Humala has started his participation in the 22nd Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit taking place at the International Convention Center in Beijing, capital of the People's Republic of China.
 



The Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture alongside with the Peruvian government coordinated the return of several artifacts to Peru after 4 years of hard deliberation.

The said objects include human remains, ceramic vessels and bowls, necklaces, and a textile. Before their packaging and transporting, the Peruvian Consul General viewed the objects on Nov. 5 at the Seattle musuem.

 




Gastronomy



 Ceviche - one of the driving forces behind London's Andean food revolution - was given the nod for a new venture at the Alexandra Trust Dining Rooms in City Road, by an Islington Council licensing committee on November 4.

Martin Morales, Peruvian restaurateur, chef and award-winning cookbook author, is behind the scheme.

He said; "I am very proud of my team and what we have achieved at Ceviche Soho and Andina in Shoreditch and hope both locals and visitors will embrace our partnering of British and Peruvian heritage and modernity at Ceviche Old Street."

Berklee College of Music's 2014-15 Signature Series continues with Susana Baca Meets Berklee. Baca, a Grammy- and Latin Grammy Award-winning Afro-Peruvian vocalist who is the former cultural minister of Peru as well as its first black cabinet member, joins a 30-piece band composed of Berklee students on November 13 at the Berklee Performance Center. The unique performance features students' original arrangements of her music. The student band includes seven students hailing from Baca's native Peru.
 



Peruvian full-length documentary, Iskobakebo, featured as the first film after 5th edition of the International Pachamama - Cinema de Frontera Film Festival began last Sunday.

The Peruvian documentary 'Iskobakebo: A difficult reencounter' directed by Fernando Valdivia, is a documentary produced by the Instituto del Bien Comun and Teleandes Producciones.


Sports



U-15 girls claimed gold at the South American volleyball championship as they defeated Argentina 3-0 at Chosica's coliseum in Peru.
 



Over the weekend, November 7 to the 9, Peruvian athletes earned the glory at the World Cup of Artistic Gymnastics, held in Medellin, Colombia.

Mariana Chiarella's floor act was a gold winning performance. This, as well as her sixth place spot on the beam, added to the young female athlete's total score of 13,525 points, edging out competitors from Slovenia and Portugal, who earned second and third place respectively.

Paddington Bear, a children's literary figure of yore, has recently been spotted at the Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima in part to visit his Aunt Lucy, but also as advertisement for his latest adventure back into the spotlight.

Originally the protagonist of Michael Bond's popular children's books of the early 1960's, Paddington is getting a revival in the form of a new book as well as a feature film, which will be honored with the voice of Aussie Nicole Kidman.

The film is to be released at the end of November, on Thursday the 27th.



Two gunmen shot and killed a journalist for Peru's leading newsmagazine who had been investigating contract killings in a province south of Lima.

Caretas magazine editors say the gunmen shot 22-year-old Fernando Raymondi in the chest on Sunday night in his father's small grocery in the town of Canete. They gunmen arrived on a motorcycle taxi and told a friend of the victim to scram.
 



Three Franciscan priests who were killed in the early 1990s by Shining Path rebels in Peru are to be beatified, according to Monsignor Luis Bambaren, bishop emeritus of Chimbote.

Bambaren, who is in currently in Rome, said that Pope Frances might travel to Peru next year in order to preside over the ceremony, RPP Noticias reported.

The three European priests - Michael Tomaszek and Zbigniew Strzalkowski of Poland and Sandro Dordi of Italy - were killed by Shining Path rebels in 1991 for "spreading the word of God," Bambaren said.
 



In Peru police special forces have eliminated 8 cocaine production laboratories situated in one of the most troubled regions of the country, valley of the rivers Apurimac and Ene, characterized by rough forest landscape. A total of almost 6 tons of chemicals used for cocaine production have been eliminated and 3 tons of dry coca leaves have been burnt.
