The Economist Intelligence Unit analyzed 55 developing economies, among which Peru ranked as the country with best business environment and most conductive conditions for expanding financial services.
 

Economy & Trade


Colombia continues to be the best nation for doing business in Latin America, followed by Peru, Mexico and Chile, according to a World Bank report titled, "Doing Business 2015: Going Beyond Efficiency."
 



The Free Trade Agreement (FTA), inked by both countries in 2010, enabled to bolster Peru's exports to the Asian nation.

Exports are expected to rise from US$ 9 million, registered in 2008, to US$16,000 million by the end of the current year, assured the nation's Ambassador to China, Juan Carlos Capu�ay.


The Council of Ministers authorized the fourth stimulus package worth 1.6 billion Nuevos Soles (about US$547 million) to boost the Peruvian economy, announced Peru's Finance Minister Alonso Segura.
 



The government of Peruvian President Ollanta Humala is evaluating tax reforms to stimulate anemic economic growth and has not ruled out trimming the corporate tax rate from 30 percent, the finance minister said on Thursday.
 

Mining & Energy


MAN Diesel & Turbo has been commissioned to supply seven diesel engines of the type 20V32/44CR. Used as gensets for a new base-load power plant, the engines will ensure power supply for the Peruvian city of Iquitos. The output from the new power plant will replace the supply from the obsolete capacity of the local network operator.



Abengoa has won an engineering, procurement and construction contract (EPC) for the Mamacocha 20MW Peruvian hydropower project in the Mamacocha River in Arequipa
Agriculture

 

 



Peru is home to some of the most popular crops in the world, such as potatoes, corn and tomatoes -ingredients of some of the finest cuisines which have sustained humanity for thousands of years.

Throughout the year, Peru produces fruit and vegetables of excellent quality, exquisite taste and vibrant colours and aromas. These are exported in off-season periods to the northern hemisphere, when this region does not have sufficient supplies, and are highly appreciated.

Part of the reason for the success and growth of Peruvian agricultural exports in recent years is, out of the 117 life zones that exist in the world, 84 are in Peru. Thanks to this exceptional natural condition, an extraordinary range of species and a wide variety of agricultural products are found here as there is excellent soil for their development. Now, people from around the world can enjoy their exquisite tastes.



In Peru many small and medium-sized asparagus growers are switching over to more profitable products, such as blueberries and grapes. This is due to the fact that the export of asparagus is expected to fall, starting in 2015.
Public Health


Peru's recently appointed Health Minister, Anibal Velasquez, said his administration will promote continuity of reforms aimed at improving Public Health and the dialogue with the sector's unions.



Just in time for Christmas, Peru's Ministry of Health hopes to land itself on the 'nice' list this year by granting free health insurance to newborns, beginning this December 2014.

Environment & COP20


Under the finance of the United States Department of State, a three day workshop was held in Lima to confront issues of forest crime and the vulnerable state of Peru's Amazon.

According to a press release from the U.S. Embassy in Peru, from November 4 to the 6, workshops and meetings were held in order to "strengthen research, enforce regulations and persecution related to forest crime".



As nations prepare to agree on a global agreement to combat climate change in Paris next year, the stakes have been raised for next month's conference in Lima, Peru, when international negotiators are expected to deliver a draft of the agreement before they meet again in Paris.
 

Diplomacy



Russia and Peru are discussing the joint use of the Glonass satellite navigation system, President Vladimir Putin said Friday.

"Russian companies are helping Peru to introduce mobile internet communications with the use of 4G wide-band data-transfer technologies," Putin said after a meeting with his Peruvian counterpart, Ollanta Humala.

Tourism



National Geographic recently selected Peru's natural wonder, Machu Picchu, as 2015's travel destination. The famous yellow-trimmed magazine made the announcement via its newsletter, therefore reaching out to thousands of interested and curious international travelers. 



In order to preserve the city's ancient walls and maintain a cleanliness out of respect for its legacy, some 30 young volunteers have joined the efforts of experts in Cusco. A S/. 600,000 investment coincides with the physical efforts to reach the project's aim of sharpening the image of the heavily visited city.
Music


For the first time, Joss Stone will give a live performance in Peru's capital city, Lima. The English soul singer and songwriter has included the Andean nation on her upcoming 2015 tour, Total World Tour.

Stone, who garnered much fame and attention in the beginning of the millennium, has been on aforementioned tour since April 2014. Due to its ambitious inclusion of of including every country on the planet (204 in total), the tour is not expected to wrap up until after two or three years of performances. Watch the video!

Area Rotary Clubs are looking for four adults to visit Peru for a month-long, expense-paid cultural exchange trip from mid-April to mid-May 2015.

The Rotary Foundation will provide round-trip airfare for the Group Study Exchange Team while local Rotarians in the host country will provide meals, lodging, and travel in their district.
