According to the Association of Agricultural Producers Guild (AGAP), Peru is Russia's leading supplier of South American produce. Demand for Peruvian fruit and vegetables has proven to be strong and stable among Russian importers, especially since the country decided tosuspend its imports from the United States and the European Union in August 2014.
 

Economy & Trade


Peru's President Ollanta Humala is launching a new economic reform package that will streamline environmental permits and boost short-term public spending by about $480 million, the country's finance minister said.
 



Peru approved a third round of emergency spending increases this year and measures to speed up environmental permitting to overcome a slump in economic growth.

The government authorized 1.6 billion soles ($547 million) in additional spending, including a year-end bonus for 1.7 million state workers. It also plans increased welfare expenditures and small infrastructure projects for education.



Peru will find it more challenging to continue posting robust economic growth during the next decade, a high-level government official said, pointing to the need for a greater presence of the State in the economy.

Transport and Communications minister Jose Gallardo Ku, an economist who is on the board of the Central Bank, said that Peru will need "more state" during the next decade to maintain strong growth, daily Gestion reported.



The Peruvian delegation appointed to travel to China and attend the upcoming APEC Summit, will be in charge of promoting Peru, and give notice to the government about the progress achieved by the country on economic affairs, stated on Tuesday the minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), Magali Silva.
 



Peru's Central Reserve Bank President, Julio Velarde, backtracked on his pay raise on Wednesday, following criticism from President Ollanta Humala.

President Humala criticized the head of Peru's Central Bank over the wage increase, a move that sources in the monetary authority reportedly said could hurt the perception of its independence.

Infrastructure



Grimshaw is developing the scheme for an airport expansion in Lima as well as the design for a new airport in Istanbul, adding global experience to an already well-established aviation portfolio.

In Peru, Grimshaw has been appointed by Lima Airport Partners (LAP) to design a new second terminal, and a new midfield Air-Traffic Control Tower for the Jorge Ch�vez International Airport; working alongside CH2MHill and Ramboll, and led by ARCADIS. The project is worth $950m with the expansion set to be located on 700 hectares of land located west of the current terminal.


COP20


Peru and Venezuela will co-chair the Social PreCOP on Climate Change that will bring together ministers and civil society representatives as part of a preparatory meeting prior to the Twentieth Conference of the Parties (COP20), to be held in Lima, Peru next month.
 

Diplomacy



Peru's President, Ollanta Humala, on Friday will meet his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, during an official working visit set to start today. Humala will later travel to China and The Vatican.
 



Peru's President Ollanta Humala departed from Lima last night for a 12 day out-of-country visit to the three nations. The first stop of his working visit to three states including the People's Republic of China and the Vatican.
 



The Peru-Kuwait Cultural Forum has honored His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah after the UN named him a "Humanitarian Leader" and Kuwait a "Humanitarian Center."
Peruvian Ambassador Heli Pelaez Castro addressed the gathering expressing pleasure for attending the first cultural forum between the two countries.

 

 




Gastronomy

The Peruvian young lady worked as a waitress in a delicacy shop and had big dreams of owning her own place. She had a friend who worked as a waitress in the same shop who often remembers the conversations they had.

She would never stop talking about her future restaurant, the friend said.

And the dream became reality.

Six years ago, after the closure of the delicacy shop, the former waitress was able to open a restaurant right across the street: Sabor a Peru.

Sitting on 2923 Biscayne Blvd, the owner honored her roots by opening a Peruvian restaurant. The friend she used to work with at the delicacy shop now works as a waitress in Sabor a Peru.

Facing opposing votes in the Congress, Midori de Habich resigned from her post as Peru's Minister of Health (MoH) on Wednesday.

A replacement for the head of the nation's Ministry of Health was inducted during an evening ceremony on November 5. An�bal Vel�squez, a physician and acting Vice Minister of Public Health, has been elected to takeover.



The national LGBTQ advocacy group traveled to Colombia last week to take part.

Along with other individuals and organizations representing various Latin American countries, the Peruvian organization Promsex (Center of Promotion and Defense of Sexual and Reproductive Rights) took part in the "Regional Consultation of Homophobic and Transphobic Violence in Education of Latin America and the Caribbean," a UNESCO event.
