Fidel Flores, a mechanic residing in Cajamarca, owed US$1,500 for a chainsaw he had purchased in 1993. Having grown tired of waiting to recuperate the last S/.500 owed by Flores, Marina de Vigo Cabrera, wife of the original owner of said power tool, asked the region's police department to step in. What was supposed to be a threat of house eviction has led to the unfortunate October 30 death of Flores, a crime that has caused the general public to backlash against the Cajamarca police department.
