The Organization of American States on Saturday held a special ceremony to pay tribute to the Peruvian culture by declaring the Peruvian Cajon an "Instrument of Peru for the Americas."

Economy & Trade

Peru's central bank said on Sunday it lowered local currency bank reserve requirements to 10 percent from 10.5 percent, a move aimed at increasing liquidity in the country's financial system as the economy slows.

Peru's net international reserves stood at US$ 63.2 billion in the week ended Oct. 28, with the foreign exchange position remaining high and equivalent to more than 19 months of imports, reported the country's Central Reserve Bank (BCR).

Mining & Energy

Minera Gold is moving to ramp up copper-gold production in Peru following the acquisition of the San Santiago processing plant and successful commissioning of the CIP gold circuit.

First gold sales started in late August 2014 with gold production from commissioning phase for the balance of the quarter of 454 ounces.

Peru's tangerine exports amounted to US $77 million between January and August this year, an increase of 23.1% over the same period in 2013, the Exporters Association (ADEX) reported.
According to the Business Intelligence System ADEX Data Trade, Peruvian tangerines reached 27 countries with the United States being main target, which accounted for 30.4% of total exports with orders worth US$23 million, that is a 62.4% increase.

Environment

After a six-year scientific marathon that involved about 4,000 authors, contributors and reviewers and 30,000 climate studies, the U.N.'s expert panel on climate change has published its latest assessment on global warming. Now many wonder what's next.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has answered the most important question on global warming - whether humans are causing it - with 95 percent certainty: Yes.

Leaders of civil society organizations in Peru yesterday began a series of workshops and presentations with their peers at a global level in the "Dialogue with Global Stakeholders: Taking action on climate change" organized by the Public Front team of COP20.

Peruvian President Ollanta Humala announced Peru and Ecuador will get together to chart a course of action against climate change in the Amazon rainforest and its connection with the El Nio meteorological phenomenon on the sideline of COP20, taking place in Lima next month.

in global climate summit.

"The upcoming Conference of Parties in Lima is critical to the success of the ongoing efforts to establish a global deal that protects our shared climate. To ensure a prosperous and sustainable future for our civilization, we must work together on the Road to Paris", said Gore.

Social Inclusion

Gastronomy

The full name is Turrn de Doa Pepa, though it is not always called that. Many historians have argued that in the nineteenth century the dessert was also known as "turrn de miel" or "turrn de Seor de los Milagros." The recipe was a "peruvian adaptation" of the classic Spanish nougat or alba nougat (a dough made from almonds, pine nuts, hazelnuts or walnuts, all mixed with honey and sugar).

Peruvian gastronomy aims to extend its presence in foreign markets though franchise-operated brand stores that pursue internationalization, said Fernando Cruz, Hellofood Peru general manager.
Tourism

More and more tourists opt for unique holiday experiences in Peru's protected natural areas, which are expected to receive some 1.4 million visitors this year, said Pedro Gamboa, head of the National Service of Protected Areas by the State (Sernanp).

I ask where one might begin a search for aliens in Peru. "There are some very old places that hold a special energy. Ancient people knew that these sites were important and built temples on them. Why? I don't have a definite answer. But there is something in it," Marco declaims.

The most famous of Peru's sacred hotspots is Nazca. There are more than 1,000 geoglyphs and lines criss-crossing the desert plains 500km  south of Lima. Some of them are more than 15km long and new ones are being discovered all the time.

Inevitably, it's been called the "sister" of Machu Picchu. But while Peru's poster girl is surrounded by the paparazzi crush of up to 2,500 visitors a day, Choquequirao (the Quechua name means "cradle of gold") is almost entirely deserted. It's not hard to see why: at least two days of mules, sweat, and wild camping separate these ruins from the nearest road or hot shower. The reward for those adventurous enough to make the trek is an Inca sanctuary that still feels, in Rudyard Kipling's phrase, like "something lost behind the ranges".
Sports

Peru has gold medalist at the Claro Isa 50th Anniversary World Surfing Games, as Anali Gomez was crowned as Women's champion after an intense Day 8 at the world-class pointbreak of Punta Rocas, Peru.

The Bid Evaluation Committee of the International World Games Association (IWGA) has finished its on-site visit in Lima, Peru as part of the assessment of three potential host cities for The World Games 2021.
The Peruvian capital is competing with Birmingham (USA) and Ufa (Russia) to host the eleventh edition of the World Games, an event that brings expertise together from more than 25 non-Olympic sports.
Lima has demonstrated a strong case to the Evaluation Committee of the International World Games Association (IWGA) reinforcing its intentions to host the Games in 2021.

Peruvian football wallows ever deeper in farce -- as the events at the end of last week make abundantly clear. The election to choose the new president of the FPF, the local football association, should have taken place Thursday -- but ended up being postponed for 30 days.

Joran van der Sloot's wife says her husband was "seriously injured" in a stabbing at the Peruvian prison where he is serving time for murder, but a top prison official is calling her account an outright lie, according to reports.
