Peruvian President Ollanta Humala Tasso congratulated Dilma Rousseff on her re-election as the President of Brazil for the second term, after a second-round run-off with the centrist opposition leader Aecio Neves. 

Economy & Trade


Peru's economy, one of the fastest growing and most stable in region, is set to pass the economies of Mexico, Chile and Brazil this year, according to projections from the International Monetary Fund, Peru's banking association Asbanc reported Friday.
 


 



The Peruvian government's National Plan for Productive Diversification (PNDP), aimed at providing development alternatives that ensure the country's economic growth, is on the right track, according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
 



The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a third policy-based loan of US$25 million designed to boost the competitiveness of Peruvian businesses.

These resources will help consolidate reforms aimed at improving the business climate, lowering entry and market-access barriers and encouraging innovation. 



Peru�s foreign direct investments (FDI) are expected to close the year at US$ 9,500 million. Experts base predictions upon an 18% decrease experienced in the first half of 2014, in comparison with 2013�s figures.
 



The credit to Peru's private sector recorded an annual growth of 11.9 percent in September this year, driven by loans denominated in soles, since those in foreign currency saw a decline, reported the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCR).
 

Mining & Energy


Antamina, Peru's top copper mine, said on Friday it expects a period of weaker production to subside in "the medium term."

The mine, in which BHP Billiton and Glencore Xstrata each have 33.75 percent stakes, produced 246,851 tonnes of copper in the first eight months of 2014, 14 percent less than in the same period a year earlier.

In December, Peru will host governments, key players and sectors from different countries brought together by a common goal: to steadily and urgently deal with the global consequences of climate change. 


 

Businesses


A Peruvian company was ranked among the top 25 multinationals to work for.

Foreigners continue to flock to Peru looking for employment, so no doubt companies here must be doing something right.

A recent ranking of the top 25 multinationals to work for was formed. Eight of the companies have subsidiaries in Peru, and one, Belcorp, is Peruvian itself.

 




Gastronomy



Mariano Avnar and Yvon Rodriguez have put the band back together.

More than 10 years ago, Mr. Avnar and Ms. Rodriguez ran Patrias in Port Chester. He was the chef, she was the manager, and the menu featured dishes from their home countries, Spain (his) and Peru (hers). The name was fitting; in Spanish, "patrias" means homelands.

Tourism



Peru's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) is working to bolster the Madre de Dios' export sector and tourism industry, announced Minister Silva following the decisions taken at the meetings held by regional government officials.

Peruvian surfing star, Cristobal De Col, felt right at home in the big waves at Punta Rocas, and had the best performance of day 1 of the Claro ISA 50th Anniversary World Surfing Games taking place in Peru. 



With the size and power of the waves, the surfers were able to execute a variety of maneuvers and demonstrate strong power surfing with critical turns. Watch the video!!! 



Peruvian capital, Lima, is one three cities that have submitted an official bid for the 11th edition of The World Games 2021 and it will be the "final stop" in the evaluation process of these potential hosts. The International World Games Association (IWGA) has assessed the bids from three potential host cities including Birmingham (USA), Lima (Peru) and Ufa (Russia).

Miscellaneous


The physicist momentarily lived in San Juan de Lurigancho, according to his Facebook account.

Even a genius makes mistakes.

Having garnered over a million cyber "friends" within hours of its debut on October 25, Stephen Hawking's Facebook page seemed to be a success.

A rather confusing mistake was caught however when many noticed that Hawking, or whomever was responsible for setting up his account, had registered his location as San Juan de Lurigancho, a district in Lima, Peru.



The Canadian government-funded Grand Challenges Canada and Concytec announced $2.2 million CAD in grants for 22 Bold Ideas from innovators based in Peru, seeking to find solutions for major health problems. 



The publisher of Peru's La Republica newspaper, Gustavo Mohme Seminario, was elected president of the Inter-American Press Association, during the association's 70th general assembly, held this year in Chile.

Mohme is to lead the regional press advocacy group in the 2014 to 2015 period, La Republica reported.  He served as vice-president in the past year.
