Economy & Trade

Peru has sought investment from India to resurrect its infrastructure sector under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The Latin American country is targeting $80-billion investment to bolster the sector and wants Indian companies to join hands with local entities there to develop rail, metro, roads, port, airport, telecommunications and energy projects under a joint venture route.

The mining concessions comprise 400ha in Lajon Huayobamba area, in the Huaranchal district of Otuzco province.

Agriculture

As the emerging summer season begins to provide Peru with sunlight and warmth, it's hard to imagine someone reaching for a fur jacket or shall. Alpaca fur however is proving quite tempting to New Zealanders, as found evident in figures for the first half of 2014.

Diplomacy

What could an Andean country and a Nordic nation possibly have in common?

Quite a bit, according to Denmark's Minister of Trade and Development, Mogens Jensen.

At the October 14 conference, held at the Westin Hotel in San Isidro, Lima, Jensen and Peru's own Minister of Trade, Magali Silva, spoke upon the burgeoning relationship between the two countries and how a closer cooperation would be beneficial to both.

Gastronomy

Widely available in Peru, the Maca vegetable has a multitude of uses. It is a root crop that grows in the Andes in Peru. It is mainly organically grown as is almost everything in Peru, as Maca grows at this elevated level, above sea level where other crops, weeds, pests etc cannot survive. Weeding and pesticide application are not necessary, and fertilisation is traditional, being mainly from the Llama and sheep manure, whilst cultivation is still strictly linked to seasonality.

Culture

The traditional processions of the Seor de los Milagros or Lord of Miracles,  held in Lima every October, is getting a technological upgrade.

Drones will be used this year, according to the Archbishop of Lima's press office,  to track and photograph the procession, which winds its way through Lima's narrow downtown streets.
