The number of people with adequate jobs in Lima Metropolitan area has gone up by 6.4 percent in the last three-month period, resulting in 184,500 new job positions, reported the National Statistics Institute (INEI).

Peru's government has ruled out cutting taxes or introducing subsidies to encourage investment and cushion export sectors from the worst economic slowdown in five years, the minister responsible for industry said on Thursday.
 



Peru's gross domestic product expanded 1.24 percent in August, bringing growth in the first eight months of this year to just 2.8 percent.

Business daily Gestion said that the result in August was slightly above forecasts from private sector economists, who had expected growth of 1.15 percent. It was also above growth in July, which came in at 1.16 percent.

Peru is considering the installation of a new liquefaction plant on the southern coast or the addition of a second train to the existing Peru LNG facility to absorb rising natural gas production.

A new liquefaction plant could be built at a $15bn energy complex that the government is promoting on the southern coast, according to state-owned PetroPeru commercial manager Gustavo Navarro. The complex will include gas-fired power plants and petrochemical units.



Gra�a y Montero, a leading Engineering and Construction company, announced that Gra�a y Montero S.A.A. and Alcogroup S.A. from Belgium, sent a binding offer for the share purchase of The Maple Companies Limited consisting on US$ 4 million for the acquisition of 40.0% of shares of The Maple Companies Limited and a commitment for an increase of capital in The Maple Companies Limited of US$ 13 million.
 

COP20


Peruvian President, Ollanta Humala, met with Rajendra Pachauri, chairperson of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
 


 



The recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, Rajendra Pachauri, will give two keynote speeches on global warming today in Lima, Peru, as part of the activities prior to the 20th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP20).
 

Telecom


Vietnamese-backed cellco Bitel, which has offered mobile services since July this year but only 'officially' launched its brand earlier this week, has said that it is targeting signing up 500,000 subscribers before the end of the year. La Republica quotes deputy manager Erick Navarrete as saying that Bitel's network covers 80% of the population: 'We have more than 2,000 antennas at national level with a plan coverage to gradually grow.' 
 

Diplomacy


Angola and Peru pledged Wednesday to work on a set of tools that insure creation of framework to accelerate and enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

This was decided at the meeting held in Lima, Peru, between the delegation of Angola led by Ambassador to Peru and Brazil, Nelson Cosme, and the local Foreign Affairs Ministry headed by the General Director for Africa, Middle East and Gulf Countries, Santiago Marcovich.



The Chinese Embassy and the Confucius Institute of the "Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru", organized the "Presentation of Folkloric Dance and Traditional Music of China" played by the Student Art Association at the Dalian Foreign Language University of China, in the framework of the 10th anniversary of the project of Confucius Institutes worldwide.(Xinhua/Luis Camacho)
