The U.S. might make a substantial contribution in November to an international fund that helps poor nations fight climate change, according to Peruvian Foreign Minister Gonzalo Gutierrez.

Gutierrez said Secretary of State John Kerry told him earlier this week that the U.S. was seriously considering a major monetary donation to the United Nations Green Climate Fund, Reuters reports.

Economy & Trade


Peruvian Finance Minister, Alonso Segura, held a meeting with the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) Managing Director, Christine Lagarde, at the multilateral institution's headquarters in Washington D.C., United States.
 



IMF Managing Director, Christine Lagarde, forecasts a slower growth for Peru this year compared with the previous years; however, she believes the policy measures that have been decided should be conducive to restoring the situation.
 



The International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicts that economic growth in Peru will have recovery in 2015, according to its latest report on the world's economic outlook released Tuesday.

Based on fiscal years data gathered by IMF, Peru is projected to grow 3.6 percent in 2014 and reach 5.1 percent in 2015.
Mining & Energy


The two-day event will discuss effective interaction with indigenous communities.

With over 600 attendees from around Latin America expected to attend, the Mining & Investment Latin America Summit will be held in Lima, on October 27th and 28th.
 

Infrastructure


The Humala administration seeks to end its term in 2016 with three-fourths of the country's rural families having access to running water and sewage, according to Housing Minister Milton Von Hesse, reported daily Gestion.

Von Hesse said that when President Ollanta Humala took office in July 2011, about one third of rural families in Peru had access to the public services. Today, about two-thirds of the rural communities have running water and sewage, he said.
 



The chief of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission to Peru, Alejandro Santos, today pointed out that the development of infrastructure projects will be crucial for the country's economic growth.
 

Agriculture


Peruvian First Lady Nadine Heredia Alarc�n, who also serves as FAO Special Ambassador, highlighted the immense contribution of our small farmers and the role of women in the various stages of agricultural production.
Public Health


Peru's Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported today on the preparedness and response efforts made by the government to prevent the outbreak of Ebola, which has ravaged West Africa and threatened the rest of the world.
 



Latin American ports on watch.
A 47-year old man has been transferred to a hospital in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after showing symptoms of Ebola virus. He is currently being kept in isolation.

 

Defense


Pentagon chief Chuck Hagel departed Thursday on a six-day tour of South America but the US-led war against the Islamic State group in the Middle East will be looming over his trip.

After talks in Colombia and Chile, the Pentagon chief will head to Peru where he will attend a meeting of regional defense ministers, officials said.
 



Russia's RSK-MiG is seeking to sign a contract with Peru for "more than 10" of the MiG-29-series fighter aircraft's most modern derivative, according to company officials.

The MiG-35C-9.61 is similar to aircraft that are supposed to be procured by the Russian Air Force - though this order has been delayed to 2016 - and the version that was previously offered to the Indian Air Force.

Now the group has taken over a sweet little corner building in Covent Garden, where Garrick Street meets tiny Floral Street, and it's a great choice of venue. 

Tourism


Visitors to the rainforests of the Manu National Park in Peru are being urged not to take part in "human safaris" aimed at providing voyeuristic sightings of members of the country's last surviving uncontacted tribes.

The call for restraint comes from Survival International, a pressure group fighting for the rights of tribal peoples worldwide.

Culture




For the second time Peru is participating in the famous Frankfurt Book Fair. 

Over 172 publication from Peru will be present at the "Peru Stand," ranging in subject matters from academia to comics. Being present at the event allows for networking opportunities that can generate future trade and cooperative relations. 

Miscellaneous


Six weeks ago, a powerful voice for conservation and governance on Peru's ragged, violent Amazon rain forest frontier was silenced, adding the name Edwin Chota to the lamentable list of campaigners and others killed around the world in places where a rush for valuable resources takes place in the absence of enforced rules.
 



Peruvian university student, Mauricio Rada Orellana, was honored for his work when he was named as finalist of the student essay contest "How to Build a Better Future for Latin America," launched by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Rada, 19, made it through the competition's final stage along with other finalists from Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica and Domincan Republic.




Two individuals had gone missing after a rafting accident on the Apurimac River.
 
Just days ago a report was made that a rafting accident on Peru�s Apurimac River had led to the disappearance of two young tourists from Israel. The government of Israel had sent search and rescue members to help Peru in the search for the missing duo. 



The businesswoman has invited a group of sex-trafficking victims to join in the adventure.
 
Silvia Vasquez Lavado is a successful businesswoman. At 40 years old she has become an executive at eBay, responsible for the technical division. But for Lavado, a U.S. citizen currently residing in San Francisco, life wasn�t always so positive. 

With a childhood scarred by sexual abuse, Lavado had to learn to overcome the trauma and regain self-confidence. Now Lavado hopes to share her life experience with other victimized women in order to motivate them to move forward with their lives, just as she has done.
