Peru's economy is set to go back to growth levels above 5.5 percent by 2015 on the back of the ramping up of the largest mining projects, accelerating investment and strong consumption, Investment financial bank JPMorgan Chase (JPM) has reported.

The four presidents of Latin America's $2.1 trillion Pacific Alliance bloc said integration is a tool for fighting inequality and they will seek a common agenda with the Mercosur group, led by Brazil and Argentina.

Peru has maintained a macroeconomic stability that gives confidence to the investor community, said President Ollanta Humala during his participation in the First Bloomberg Latin American Forum - Hosting the Pacific Alliance.


Moody's Investors Service today said Peru's economic growth over the next year will be driven mainly by the public sector spending, stronger employment and firmer consumer confidence.


The infrastructure sector in Peru draws higher investor expectations as the government works for reducing red tape and ensuring long-term growth through economic stability, according to the investment bank JPMorgan Chase (JPM).


The seventh Peru Investment Forum organized by the Peruvian Business Council will be held on September 23-24, 2014 in New York city, United States.
Investment Forum is a world Class event dedicated to promote investment conditions and opportunities in strategic sectors in Peru, and this 7th edition is attempted to analyze the Infrastructure sector. 


Peru's economy will expand less than policy makers forecast this year, central bank President Julio Velarde said, after falling metal prices hurt investment.

The economy will grow close to 3.5 percent, down from the 4 percent to 4.2 percent forecast by the central bank and government, respectively, Velarde said at an event in New York, today.

Mining & Energy


Peru will be able to increase energy exports to Latin American countries "in a few years" as it boosts natural gas production, said President Ollanta Humala.

Peru has covered domestic power demand and will consider exporting surplus energy once it has completed the country's second major natural gas pipeline, Humala said yesterday at the Bloomberg Latin America Forum in New York.



Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) officially announced on Monday that Lima will host the third Oil, Gas and Electricity Conference on February 25-26, 2015.
A recent technical report by MEM's Directorate General of Hydrocarbons said that the conference is aimed at encouraging and supporting investments in the Andean nation.

Agriculture


Peru is the second largest exporter of canned asparagus of the world by accounting for 43 percent of the total volume exported, a performance only topped by China with 45 percent, according to Scotiabank. 



In a bid to improve farm policies and revenue for rural producers, Peru plans to enhance the quality, reliability and availability of its agricultural information with a US$15 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). 

Environment


Peruvian President Ollanta Humala said Tuesday that he is confident December's climate change meeting in Lima will produce a "clear and coherent" document ready for signing at a 2015 gathering in Paris.

"We do not want just a compilation of loose and fragmented ideas," Humala said at the U.N. Climate Change Summit in New York.



Peruvian President Ollanta Humala, has called for the greatest alliance in history to combat climate change which is threatening the very existence of mother Earth.
In his speech at the opening of the UN climate summit he said his country expects the twentieth Conference the parties (COP20) to be held in December in Lima, to begin to build a partnership between developed and developing.
 



Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli said Tuesday that China will support Peru's efforts to make the Lima climate conference a success.

Zhang, who is in New York for the UN Climate Summit as Chinese President Xi Jinping's special envoy, met Peruvian President Ollanta Humala Tuesday during the summit, expressing his good wishes for the UN Climate Change Conference in Lima, capital of Peru, at the end of the year.

China and Peru share broad common interest in climate change and have maintained close coordination and cooperation on the issue, Zhang noted.



Germany and Norway agreed Tuesday to support Peru's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in the Peruvian Amazon.

The partnership was launched during the Climate Summit in New York at a press conference held jointly by the President of Peru, Ollanta Humala; the Prime Minister of Norway, Erna Solberg; and the German Minister for the Environment, Barbara Hendricks.



Some 8 million soles, or US$ 2.7 million, will be allocated to preserve the forests of Moy�n-Palacios in Peru's northern region of Lambayeque, as part of an agreement signed by the Regional Government and the National Fund for Protected Natural Areas (Profonanpe).

Social Inclusion


Peru's Minister of Development and Social Inclusion, Paola Bustamante, shared her country's financial inclusion experience with users of state-run program Juntos, during a high-level meeting of Equal Futures Partnership on the margins of the 69th UNGA in New York.
 


 

Archaeology


'Juanita,' the frozen, mummified body of a young girl sacrificed in Inca times, was discovered nearly 20 years ago.

As well as Ampato Inca mummies have also been found on various other mountains of Peru among them Chachani, Misti and Pichu Pichu, close to Arequipa, and Sara Sara in Ayacucho. Today Juanita can be found in the Museum of Andean Sanctuaries, just south of the Plaza de Armas, which is well worth a visit should you be visiting Arequipa.
 

Health


Peru�s Ministry of Health (Minsa) has declared a nation-wide health emergency after the virus, chikungunya, was detected in Colombia. Preventive measures are being taken in order to block entry of the virus into Peru.
The health alert will last 90 days. 

 




Miscellaneous


Peruvians and supporters addressed climate change issues on Sunday.

Floating above the mass, banners with pictures of Edwin Chota, the recently assassinated indigenous leader, and Maxima Acu�a, a leader from Cajamarca, were carried throughout the Global March Against Climate change.

Ban ki Moon, Secretary General of the United Nations, even took part in the mobile demonstration.



In the morning hours of Tuesday, six days after having fallen deep into the Inti Machay cave, Cecilio Lopez Tercero was brought 10 meters closer to escaping the dark and cold surroundings.

An eight-person team of Spanish explorers began the rescue process by lowering a stretcher down to the victim. Due to Cecilio Lopez's likely fragile physical state however, the process itself needs to be done delicately.
