The upcoming start up of large-scale infrastructure projects are expected to further stimulate private investment in Peru over the year's four quarter (Q4-2014), according to Peru-based bank Scotiabank.

The growth of Peru's gross domestic product (GDP) is set to go up more than three times higher than the regional average with an annual expansion rate of 4 percent, the brokerage firm BCP Securities Walter Molano, analyst at the United States-based investment bank, noted the Latin America and the Caribbean is slowing down at an alarming pace.

This September Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines, Edwin Quintanilla, announced that in ten years, hydroelectric, wind and solar, among other renewables, will meet 66% of Peru's energy needs. At this moment 54% of Peru's energy is renewable, most of which comes from hydroelectric power (3,300 Megawatts).

 Peru�s non-traditional agricultural exports grew in first half of 2014. Reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MINAGRI) non-traditional agricultural exports raked in an astounding US$ 2.379 million dollars in the first seven months of 2014. This figure represents a 27% increase in comparison to the same time period of the previous year.

 Peru's Housing, Construction and Sanitation Ministry has launched the National Sanitation Plan that includes a 8-year investment of 53.5 billion soles (US$18.7bn) aimed at improving the country's sanitation and water quality in the 2014-2021 period.

 Peruvian home-improvemnt store, Maestro, was bought Wednesday by Chilean-owned retailer Falabella. According to Bloomberg, since the change in ownership, "US$ 200 million dollars of [Maestro�s] bonds due in 2019 jumped 7.1 cents to 102.24 cents on the dollar," resulting in the highest level since June 2013. Simultaneously, Falabella�s shares in Santiago experienced the biggest increase in three weeks (2.1%).

 Peru is to build a helicopter maintenance and co-production facility in the city of La Joya, Arequipa, for its incoming fleet of Russian Mi-17 aircraft, Minister of Defence Pedro Cateriano announced on 12 September. Cateriano travelled to Russia early in September to establish the contract's details. The plant's construction is part of a 2013 programme, valued at USD540 million, to buy 24 Mi-171Sh helicopters for the Peruvian Army.

Every September, Peruvian restaurants and famous chefs from around the world gather in Lima for a celebration of Peruvian cuisine. The word mistura means "mixture" in Portuguese. And the cuisine served at Mistura, the biggest food festival in Latin America, certainly reflects a fusion of cultural dishes.
"Mistura is the culinary stronghold for one of the greatest cuisines of the world," says Victor Albisu, chef and owner of Del Campo, a South American grill in Washington, D.C. "It's the place to be in September."

When chef Gaston Acurio announced he would be retiring from his position at his Astrid Y Gaston restaurant in Peru many people questioned what the chef would do next. Would he start a new restaurant? Would he focus his efforts on an entirely new avenue? And, as usually asked when Acurio is in town, would he finally leave food and step into Peru's political arena? The first chef running for office.
It was actually all of the above, minus the politics, that led Acurio to officially retire.

In it�s fifth edition, the New York Peruvian Film Showcase (NYPFS) celebrates Peruvian cinema by focusing on Peruvian archaeological heritage. In the free and public event, narrative features and documentaries can be enjoyed, as well as video-art installations and concerts of traditional Andean music. As the event�s page states, "ancient Peruvian art forms still influence and inspire present generations".
