Central Bank President Julio Velarde said that the monetary authority will have more space to implement monetary stimulus thanks to the drop in inflation in August.
The national statistics agency INEI said Monday that the consumer price index for Lima fell 0.09 percent in August, bringing the 12-month inflation rate to 2.69 percent. That is the first time this year that the annual inflation rate has been below the Central Bank's upper target of 3%.

Peru plans to list Lima's state water company Sedapal on the stock exchange to foster private investments in sanitation, El Comercio newspaper reported.
"Just like we've done with electric power state companies, we will open Sedapal to private capital," economy minister Luis Castilla was quoted by El Comercio as saying.

Peruvian comedy is brusque and rough-and-tumble, but few outsiders would be prepared for so many casual racial stereotypes paraded for cheap laughs.
One such caricature, La Paisana Jacinta, became so popular it got its own weekday prime-time show. Played by a man in drag wearing a wig with plaits, a prosthetic nose and with blacked out teeth, the personality is a parody of an Andean indigenous woman living in Peru's capital, Lima.

The alien life form, better known as Alf, from the popular TV series of the same name, recently posted a selfie taken in front of the iconic Machu Picchu.
