Peru is on track to assume Pro-Tempore Presidency of the Pacific Alliance in June next year and have an outstanding participation in such a bloc, said Prime Minister Ana Jara.

In a presentation to the Peruvian Congress, the Cabinet's head stressed "this is an important integration effort."

Likewise, she went on to state that all Pacific Alliance member countries "share democratic market values and new public management experiences."

 "This profile has allowed us to build up the pillars underpinning the Alliance: free movement of goods, persons, services, capital and cooperation between the member states," Jara added.
Economy & Trade


The total value of credit granted by Municipal Savings and Loans Banks (CMAC) to Peruvian small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) reached a record high of 7.82 billion soles (US$ 2.77 billion) in the first half of 2014.
 


 



The Peruvian economy came to a standstill in June, with gross domestic product posting just a slight expansion.

The National Statistics Institute (INEI) said Friday that Peru's economy expanded 0.3 percent in June versus the year-earlier period, lower than expected.

However, Peruvian economists still expect growth to come in at around a respectable 4 percent this year on expected stronger growth in the second half of the year driven by new mining output and infrastructure works.

The Las Bambas acquisition gives MMG the leverage to become China's top copper producer, even as operational and market volatility-related risks remain for the project, according to Credit Suisse analysts.

"The start-up of production at Las Bambas project, by end-2015, should lift MMG's annual copper output to over 600,000 tonnes, catapulting it to a top 10 copper miner globally with output thrice that of Jiangxi Copper (the current largest Chinese copper miner)."


Latin Resources will commence a closely watched drilling phase in Peru's uber hot copper district, home to 125 billion pounds of contained copper in reserves and resources and over 560,000 tonnes per annum of copper production.

Rock chip and soil samples from Latin's tenements in Southern Peru's Ilo district have returned the presence of copper with high anomalous values grading up to 8.4% copper.


Germany is providing multi-billion-euro financial guarantees to help its biggest utility E.ON strike long-term gas import deals, a source with direct knowledge of the matter said, as the country seeks to reduce its dependence on Russian supply.

The Chinese government has pledged to step up monitoring efforts in their customs agencies and border controls in order to avoid illegal entry of Peruvian maca, Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) reported Wednesday.


The pricey potato has finally caught the attention of the State Government which decided to enhance its production by bringing more areas under potato cultivation.

 International Potato Centre (CIP), Peru, will assist the State Government for achieving self-sufficiency in potato production within the next five years.

China Fishery Group Ltd., the anchovy seller accepting fish in lieu of cash from a supplier, faces a second deadline today as it seeks bondholder approval to let its unit in Peru guarantee as much as $1.2 billion of debt.

A stronger investment commitment totaling US$ 11 billion for large-scale infrastructure projects in Peru will further promote social inclusion, employment creation and the enhancement of citizens' well being, Peruvian Prime Minister Ana Jara has said.
Diplomacy


The Peruvian government formalized approval of the Attached Chart that replaces a previous map showing the outer limit -southern sector- of its maritime domain.


Peru's President Ollanta Humala has set off a diplomatic squabble with Chile by presenting a new map that shows Peruvian ownership of a disputed triangle of land on their border.

Mr. Humala presented the map showing a new ocean border in a ceremony in Government Palace on Tuesday, and which also showed as part of Peru the small parcel of land claimed by both nations.


 




Technology


Brazil, Peru and Mexico saw the highest number of cyber attacks in Latin America in 1H14, especially during the World Cup, according to Russian IT security specialist Kaspersky Lab.

 Many of the attacks were aimed at stealing money and financial information, and the higher quantity was due to the large number of tourists traveling with their smartphones to other cities and countries, according to Kaspersky Lab.

Kirsten Bos from the University of Tubingen certainly didn't when she and her colleagues started studying three Peruvian skeletons. They were just trying to understand the history of tuberculosis-a disease that has affected humans for millennia and still kills millions every year. Team member Jane Buikstra excavated three early victims from a site in southern Peru; their warped spines and ribs showed unmistakeable signs of the disease.

There is many a street cart or "hole-in-the-wall" in Cusco where you can find really authentic Andean or Peruvian cuisine. Some 28 pickup trucks will be allocated within regions across the country in order to reinforce the national police's monitoring network and thus ensure safety of tourists visiting such sites.
