The credit ratings agency Standard and Poor's has forecasted a 4.5 percent rise for Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Peru this year, while a growth rate ranging from 5.5 percent to 6 percent is expected in 2015.

Celebrity chef Gaston Acurio has apparently re-opened the door to a possible run for Peru's highest elected office, according to local media reports.
In an interview with Spanish newspaper El Pais, Gaston was reported saying that if he ran for office one day it would be in part due to the influence of his father, a prominent senator and cabinet minister during the administration of President Fernando Belaunde Terry (1963-1968).

 Police in Peru have captured Alberto Santillan, one of the country's most wanted drug traffickers who allegedly works with Mexico's Tijuana cartel, the Interior Ministry said Wednesday. "Drug trafficker Alberto Santillan Zamora, alias 'Chang' and 'Viejo,' is considered one of 2013's leading high-ranking drug traffickers, and has been captured in San Martin," the special anti-drugs police said.
