The Ollanta Humala administration is working a package of incentives to reactivate the Peruvian economy, the country's Economy and Finance Minister Luis Miguel Castilla has said. 

Economy & Trade


Peruvian exports are expected to expand six percent this year, driven by the mining sector and non-traditional exports, especially in the second half of the year, BBVA Research forecasted on Friday. 



Investments of Colombian-based firms in Peru reached a record high of more than US$ 10 billion over the last ten-year period, Colombia's embassy in the Andean nation said Friday. 



Peru's net international reserves continue to increase. On Saturday, the country's Central Reserve Bank said reserves reached US$64.63 at May 30,2014.

The BCR said that the current level of international reserves accounts for over 32 percent of the country's gross domestic product.  

Mining & Energy


Peruvian President Ollanta Humala said at the inauguration ceremony of a natural gas distributor pipeline in the southern region of Ica that his government is starting to deliver on its promise to make the fuel available to all at affordable prices. 

 




Agriculture


The value of agricultural exports from Peru totaled US$ 1.4 billion in the first four months of 2014, representing a 24.3 percent increase over the same period last year, the country's Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry (Minagri) said on Sunday. 



The number of Peruvian farmers engaged in producing potato has increased from 600,000 in 1994 to 730,000 in 2012, according to figures released from the 3rd National Agricultural Census (Cenagro).


Peru has increased its area planted with potatoes by 14.2%, from 280,000 hectares in the 2005/2006 campaign to 320,000 hectares in the 2012/ 2013 season, the country's Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry (Minagri) said.

Environment


The 20th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 20) scheduled for December in Lima, Peru, is a golden opportunity to forge a new global climate pact, Peruvian Environment Minister Manuel Pulgar-Vidal said Friday. 



Countries must adopt a "realistic" approach to UN climate talks, says Peru's environment minister, who warns that time has now run out to finalise every aspect of the new deal. 

"Eighteen months it is not enough time to finish with all this discussion," said Manuel Pulgar-Vidal.

Diplomacy


Peru's Deputy Foreign Minister Fernando Rojas is set to travel on Monday to South Korea with the aim to discuss with his Korean counterpart the bilateral agenda and to strengthen technological cooperation with that Asian country.


The Consul General of the United States of America in Lima Elizabeth Power announced that Peru has had a sustained reduction in visa refusal rates in the last three years due to its solid economic growth.

Archaeology


 

Recently unearthed artifacts of thriving pre-Inca cultures which flourished in northern Peru are on display at the Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum, in the Lambayeque region, it was reported Friday.

The above impressive collection is set to feature more than 60 archaeological items which were discovered at Huaca Santa Rosa site, located in Pucala, a district of the north coastal city of Chiclayo.

The Vatican's Financial Information Authority (AIF) has signed a working agreement with its counterparts in the United Kingdom, France, Malta, Romania, Poland and Peru, establishing formal procedures for cooperation in efforts to fight money laundering and the financing of terrorist organizations.
