Gastronomy

People from Washington D.C. will have the opportunity to enjoy again the exquisite flavors of the coast, highlands and jungle of Peru during the upcoming second edition of Taste of Peru.

This gastronomic festival is scheduled for Sunday, June 8, 2014, at the University of the District of Columbia, Washington, D. C. 10:00 a.m - 6:00 p.m.

There are many variations of this delicious dish, but the recipe here is mine, and is the result of decades of cooking sessions in my mom's kitchen. Some recipes call only for chicken breast but I find that also using dark meat gives added flavor. Aji amarillo is the key spice and I add some turmeric for added color. And though it takes patience to poach the chicken and slow cook the stew, after one bite you may just have your own spicy epiphany and fall in love with Peruvian food.

Tourism

Archaeologists have discovered a new section of Inca Road- and this one leads right to Machu Picchu.

According to Andina news agency, the newly discovered road is about one and a half kilometers long, and varies between 1.2 and 1.4 meters in breadth, depending on the terrain. The road begins at Wayraqtambo and leads up to a platform from which travelers can see parts of the complex at Machu Picchu.

With numerous treks criss-crossing the Sacred Valley to converge on Machu Picchu, it's tough to know which to choose. The Inca Trail, the most famous route, reaches the ethereal citadel on foot, while others traverse the Andes' surging contours to the towns of Ollantaytambo or Santa Teresa, before taking a train or bus to the base town of Aguas Calientes. Tongue-twister Quechua names and abundant huacas (Inca ruins) on the map can confuse further.
