Peruvian President Ollanta Humala highlighted the ongoing reforms undertaken by his administration aimed at putting forward stalled investments projects, thus increasing the level of business confidence in the Andean nation. 

Economy & Trade


Peruvian non-traditional exports amounted to US$ 3,6 billion in the first four months of the year, representing an increase of 8.4 percent over the same period in 2013, it was reported on Monday. 



The Department of Trade and Industry's business delegation has arrived in Peru for the first leg of an Outward Trade and Investment Mission (OTIM).

The 27-member delegation made up of businesses in the agro-processing, engineering and construction, defences systems and mining will get an opportunity to interact with their Peruvian counterparts and learn how business is conducted in the Latin American country.

Mining & Energy


Transportadora de Gas del Per�, which operates Peru's biggest natural gas pipeline, said it is counting on power plants and petrochemical projects to create demand for future production increases.

The consortium, known as TGP, is on track to finish work on a US$700mn expansion of the Camisea duct by the end of 2015, the company's general manager Ricardo Ferreiro said. 

 



The Province of Talara, Department of Piura,  will have the largest energy project in the nation, it will require US$3.5 billion and it constitutes the largest investment in Peruvian History, it represents a major challenge and is considered to be a highly intricate project in the Southern Pacific Coast. 

 




Technology


The e-commerce sector in Peru reach record breaking revenue of around US$ 800 million in 2013, recording 20 percent rise in online trends over the regular shopping than last year, according to PayU Latam Peru. 

Agriculture & Fishing


The Peruvian Avocado Commission has launched an unprecedented combination of trade and consumer marketing programmes to support the largest Peruvian avocado crop ever exported to the US this summer. More than 130m lbs of avocados are projected to land in the US between June and September, an increase of 120 per cent over last year. 



In spite of Peru's ongoing and impressive economic growth and development, the Andean nation's economy is still based around the export of non-manufactured products, such as minerals and agricultural goods. A staple of Peruvian culture and an important part of its exports is coffee. Tragically, coffee production in the country is under duress due to a breakout of coffee leaf rust ('roya' in Spanish). 



Peru's fishery output rose by a whopping 82.18 percent in April this year over the same period in 2013, said a report from the National Statistics Institute, INEI.

According to the latest figures released by the government agency, March's strong performance was on the back of a greater extraction of maritime species intended for direct human consumption.  

Diplomacy


Peruvian Foreign Minister Eda Rivas will attend the 44th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), which will convene the Foreign Ministers of the Americas to debate "Development with Social Inclusion."  



Cooperation ties between Spain and Peru are excellent and will not change following the abdication of Spanish King Juan Carlos I, Francisco Eguiguren, Peruvian ambassador to the European country, said Monday.  



The United States' decision to allow Peru's inclusion into its visa waiver program (WMP) for short-term visits -up to 90 days- is expected to take between three years to six years, the National Chamber of Tourism's (Canatur) has reported.

President Ollanta Humala announced the government's commitment to start the construction works of the nation's first cable car in the Choquequirao citadel with the aim of fostering the tourism industry in the Apurimac.

Authorities are searching for two mountain climbers who disappeared after setting out to climb Alpamayo. Enrico Brogli (29) and Mateo Tragliaquili (27), both Italian nationals, traveled to Peru to climb Alpamayo, a peak that attracts a number of climbers from different parts of the world in June and July. 



Peru's Air Force will receive a delivery of eight new Russian-made helicopters in November, with an additional 16 to come in 2015, Peruvian Defense Minister Pedro Cateriano said.

The Mi-171Sh multi-purpose helicopters were sold to Peru in a $406 million deal in December, and are likely to replace the eight Mi-17 transport helicopters that were sold to Peru in 1984, the Jane's Defence military news website reported Tuesday.
