A study by a pair of researchers with the University of Maine suggests that the northern coast of Peru may have been altered due to population shifts as a result of the Spanish conquest in the 1500's. In their paper published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Daniel Belknap and Daniel Sandweiss describe a field study they conducted in the area that suggested that Inca living on the coast prior to the Spanish conquest, may have inadvertently been supporting the existence of sand ridges by discarding mollusk shells. After they left, it appears, some of the sand ridges were blown away by the wind.

I probably have driven by Gala Fusion Restaurante dozens of times, but never noticed it among the bevy of various restaurants now located on Av. Mendiburu. Gala has been opened for a year and a half. Three of the five Gala brothers (Celastino, Alfredo, and Rusbel) are the chefs and names behind this restaurant and were educated at Le Cordon Bleu in Lima. The Gala family hails originally from Huancavelica. Gala Fusion's biggest claim to fame was the first place award for young chef (1er puesto joven cocinero) that Rusbel Gala won in 2013 at Peru's most prestigious and well known food festival, Mistura. Rusbel has previously worked at La Rosa Nautica, Segundo Muelle and with the Acurio Corporation.
