Peru's Gross Domestic Product is set to record a growth rate equal to or higher than 5 percent this year, according to forecasts by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). 

Economy & Trade


The Third Andean Business Meeting expects to generate nearly US$ 100 million in sales, the Peruvian Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) announced Tuesday.

Magali Silva, Mincetur's head, noted more than 700 leading entrepreneurs from Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Bolivia are expected to carry out 4,800 business appointments at the international gathering.  



Peru hopes that free trade zone talks with Russia will lead to a beneficial experience exchange between the two nations, Peru's Foreign Minister Eda Rivas told RIA Novosti. 

Mining & Energy


In a surprise raid, about 1,500 police and troops dynamited $20 million worth of heavy machinery as Peru's government throttled up a crackdown on illegal gold mining that has badly scarred the ecologically rich southeastern jungle region of Madre de Dios.  

Infrastructure


Chilean telco Entel has unveiled plans to invest a total of USD2.85 billion in its Chilean and Peruvian operations over the 2014-2016 period, BNamericas writes, citing Entel president Juan Huratdo. Of the total, USD700 million will be invested in Entel's market each year whilst its Peruvian unit would see annual spending of USD250million. The lion's share - around 70% - of the company's investment in Chile this year would be spent on the mobile segment, the president said, with a focus on increasing the number of 3G sites and improving coverage within buildings and enclosed areas.  


Diplomacy


Peru's President Ollanta Humala held a bilateral meeting Tuesday with his Colombian counterpart Juan Manuel Santos in that nation's capital Bogota.  



Peru favors the dialog on Ukraine that was started by Russia, Ukraine, the European Union and United States in Geneva earlier this month, Peru's Foreign Minister Eda Rivas told RIA Novosti.  



The visit by United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Uruguay, Paraguay and Peru brings to an end 10 days of unusually intense diplomatic activity by the Gulf nation in Latin America.

On Monday Apr. 28, Al Nahyan met with his Uruguayan counterpart Luis Almagro before he was received by President Jos� Mujica. On Tuesday Apr. 29 he continued on his tour to Paraguay and Peru. 

Fight Against Drugs


Peruvian police on Tuesday burned about 11 tons of drugs confiscated in raids in recent months.

Colonel Carlos Reyes, head of the force's organized crime-fighting unit, said the drugs included 600 kilos (1,323 pounds) of cocaine base stashed in a home in Lima's La Molina neighborhood.

NICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake traveled to Peru last week where he met with children, community members and government officials to see how education, health and social protection programmes are bridging the equity gap between indigenous and non-indigenous children.

The delightful ceviche of Peru's legendary Chez Wong restaurant has been crowned the tastiest dish in the world at the Chowzter fast feasts awards held in London.  



A new Peruvian restaurant is opening in Durham.

There's a sign at 4105 University Drive that Mi Peru will soon occupy that space, reports the Durham Herald-Sun.

Previous restaurants at that site include Fresno Cafe and Bear Rock Cafe.

A couple of White Bengal Tiger has given birth to a little tiger cub which has taken the unique specialty in the whole country, long Que has arrived to watch it.

It is known that white Bengal Tigers only found in the thick forests of Bengal But this news has taken from sources that in the local Huachipa zoo of Lima the city of Peru has White Bengal Tiger couple which gave birth to a little white Bengal tiger cub. It is for the first time in Peru.
