Peru's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is set to record a growth rate between 5.5 percent and 6 percent this year, Peruvian Economy and Finance Ministry (MEF) said on Saturday. 

Economy


Peru has turned into an irreversible decentralization process and the current challenge lies on strengthening the State and its presence nationwide, Peruvian Finance and Economy Minister, Luis Miguel Castilla, said on Saturday. 



The non-financial public sector in Peru showed a surplus of 2.49 million soles (US$ 89.5 million) in March this year, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) of Peru announced Saturday. 



Peru's net international reserves amounted to US$ 65.62 billion at April 8, 2014, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) of Peru reported on Saturday. 



Exports of childrenswear from Peru amounted to US$ 3.8 million in the first two months of 2014, of which kidswear worth $2.4 million were destined to the United States, Peruvian Association of Exporters reported. 

Mining and Energy



The value of gold exports from Peru is likely to reach US$ 9 billion in 2014, due to a better outlook for this year in the conditions of the international mineral price, the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy (SNMPE) said on Monday. 



Glencore Xstrata said Sunday it agreed to sell the mining company's Las Bambas Peruvian copper project to a Chinese consortium in an all-cash deal worth at least $5.8 billion.

The deal, one of China's biggest mining acquisitions in recent years, follows months of tortuous negotiations over how much the copper project is worth. In a short statement Sunday evening, Glencore said it had agreed to sell its entire interest in Las Bambas to a consortium led by MMG Ltd., a unit of state-controlled China Minmetals Corp.

Infrastructure


Peru has the strongest track record in executing infrastructure investments in recent years in Latin American and the Caribbean, rating agency Fitch announced Friday.  

 



Peru's regional and local governments are requesting 7bn soles (US$2.530bn) worth of agriculture irrigation works be implemented by the national government.

In a release, state news agency Andina said the government is looking to create a portfolio of water infrastructure projects which would be financed through the agriculture ministry's (Minagri) Mi Riego fund, along with taxes, mining canon resources and regional government funds.

Peruvian small and medium enterprises( SMEs) from the agro-food sector which participated in Canada's international food and beverage trade show, SIAL Canada expect to ink business deals worth US$1.2 million within the next nine months, Peruvian Association of Exporters reported.

Peru's Vice Minister of Vulnerable Populations, Julio Rojas, has committed to do more for protecting vulnerable citizens, prioritizing human rights, gender and conservation of cultural values before the United Nations.  

Health


Peru's Ministry of Health has issued a nationwide epidemiological alert regarding avian flu, also known as H1N1, according to the news publication Peru21. The alert is in response to an uptick of avian flue cases in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

The historical thermal baths, located on the outskirts of the city of Trujillo, are expecting 20 thousand tourists for the upcoming long Easter weekend (April 17-20), according to Commercial Director of the Travel and Tourism agency Huanchaco Tours, Vanessa Guevara.
