The Economist Intelligence Unit says that Peru's macroeconomic policies as well as strong internal consumption will fuel continued growth.

Public investment in Peru posted a 15-percent growth at March 6, 2014, while the budget allocation was up to 9 percent, Peruvian Economy and Finance Ministry (MEF) has reported. 

Mining & Energy


 Southern Copper has won a contract to build a 113mn-sol (US$40mn) road in southern Peru's Tacna region where the company aims to expand one of its mines, a state agency said.

The Phoenix-based company will take 17 months to build the 41.4km Ilabaya-Cambaya-Camilaca paved road, drainage canals and two bridges, state investment promotion agency Proinversi�n said in a statement.



Estrella Gold Corporation announced that its subsidiary, Gallant Minerals Peru Ltd. S.A., has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Compa��a de Minas Buenaventura S.A.A. regarding the Pucarana property in Peru.

Under the arrangements, Buenaventura will be in charge of planning, implementing and developing for the exploitation of the Pucarana property.

Peru and the European Union are working together to prevent farmers from turning to growing coca out of economic desperation by promoting the cultivation of alternative crops.

Peruvian President Ollanta Humala joined leaders from more than 20 countries in Santiago today for the inauguration of Michelle Bachelet as president of Chile.

Biden and Humala are both in Santiago to attend today's inauguration of Michelle Bachelet, the president-elect of Chile.



President Ollanta Humala is in Santiago, Chile Tuesday for the inaugural ceremony for incoming President Michelle Bachelet.

Humala is scheduled to have a private meeting with Bachelet later in the day, when both presidents are expected to touch on the implementation of the new maritime border and look to strengthen ties between the nations. 

 




Tourism




The tourist sector in Peru's northern Lambayeque region will receive a public investment worth US$ 12.4 million with the aim of attracting more visitors to the area, it was reported Monday.

The city of Cusco is facing yet another occurrence of graffiti at a historical site this week. Early Sunday morning, a vandal, armed with red spray paint, what appear to be his or her initials on Cusco's famous twelve-angled stone.
The spray paint scribble on the famous twelve-angled stone is just the most recent case of damage on the Inca walls of Cusco, which are part of our historical and cultural heritage. And who is causing this damage? It's not a natural disaster rather, it is us- humans- who are committing these crimes.

Pope Francis has appointed Peruvian cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani to serve as member of the newly-created Vatican Council for the Economy.

Cipriani was selected by Pope Francis to be one of the fifteen members to the New Council for the Economy which comprises eight cardinals or bishops representing different parts of the world, and seven lay experts of different nationalities with strong professional financial experience. 



Multi-national car dealer Inchcape posted an 11 percent rise in full-year pre-tax profit on Tuesday, boosted by a strong performance in emerging markets including Chile and Peru, and said it expected further growth this year .

The firm distributes BMW vehicles and saw premium markets grow by 28 percent and 22 percent respectively due to a growing middle class.
