Peru's global-scale network of trade agreements has allowed the country to attract more than US$ 85 billion of foreign investment over the last two decades, Peruvian private investment promotion agency (ProInversion) has reported.

Peruvian Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva has announced that, in the second half of this year, Peru and Indonesia will begin negotiations to reach an agreement that favors preferential trade between both countries.



 Peru's financial services regulator SBS has presented four new regulations which aim to expedite the process of investing in assets and shares for the country's private pension fund managers (AFP), according to insurance site Inese.



Peru's consumer price index will close 2014 within the 1-3 percent target range set out by the Central Reserve Bank (BCR), investment bank Credit Suisse said on Monday.

As the first and exclusive Mining Country Sponsor at the 2014 Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) Convention, Peru prepared a full-day event divided into two extraordinary informative and discussion sessions on Tuesday, March 4.  



Glencore Xstrata remained in talks with a Chinese bidder for an asset that has been valued at more than $5 billion (R54bn), chief executive Ivan Glasenberg said yesterday.  

Agriculture


Peru's Export and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) will lead a delegation of 13 Peruvian companies to the upcoming Natural Products Expo West 2014 in California, United States.
Diplomacy


Peru's government is backing an Organization of American States-led solution to the political crisis that has gripped Venezuela, Premier Rene Cornejo said.

"We favor the OAS  mechanisms," said Cornejo, according to daily El Comercio. "This means an interaction between the different members of the OAS in order to reach an effective solution."

 



The electronic passports needed for Peruvians to visit the Schengen countries will be available in Lima and nationwide no later than by October this year, the National Migration Authority's President, Edgard Reymundo, said on Tuesday.  

 




Tourism




Once again, Machu Picchu is making a prominent appearance on media rundowns of top tourist sites and ruins.

UK publication the Telegraph included Machu Picchu in their recent "World's Best Ruins" list. According to the Telegraph, they compiled the list to coincide with the opening of the new "Ruin Lust" exhibition at the Tate Britain.



Today marks the 479th anniversary of the Spanish founding of the city. Trujillo, the City of Everlasting Spring, is celebrating its birthday this week.
The Trujillo metropolitan area is one of the largest in the country. The city, known for its temperate weather, marinera culture, and fascinating nearby pre-Columbian ruins, is a hotspot for foreign and domestic tourists alike. 
Gastronomy


The majestic Peruvian Andes stretch the length of Peru and have witnessed the rise and fall of many civilizations. By 3000 BC, highlanders were cultivating a wide range of crops in this difficult landscape-hardy, life-sustaining foods such as gourds, corn, potatoes and quinoa. Sports


After months with no firm hand to man the helm, the Peruvian national football squad has a new coach: Pablo Bengoechea.

Bengoechea, a 49-year-old Uruguayan national, has signed on to direct the Peruvian national team until December of 2014. However, according to SBS, the contract is likely to be extended through the Copa America tournament in Chile in 2015.
