Glencore Xstrata said that Minmetals is the preferred bidder for its Peruvian copper mine Las Bambas, an asset it agreed to sell to secure approval from China's competition authorities for its takeover of miner Xstrata.

In my last Peru hostel roundup, I dished on where to stay in Cusco. Before that, I covered places to bunk down in IquitosLima, and Huacachina.

This week, I'm introducing my favorite Peruvian party hostel as well as the best hostel breakfast I had in the country.

Click here to read about my travels and hostel ratings throughout Peru. I stayed in varied accomodations, so be sure to check out each review.

Gastronomy

The Incas considered the fertile valley of the Urubamba River to be a sacred place. One legend claims that the sun refreshes itself at night in the chilly waters underneath the river. The lush grasslands of this high plateau support sheep and grain production, and the mountain backdrop provides the ideal setting for an authentic pachamanca, or Andean pit roast. Usually undertaken at harvest time, as a thank-you to Pacha Mama, or Mother Earth, a full-scale pachamanca, is a major endeavor that engages the entire community. For his visiting American guests, Chef Pio Vasquez of El Huacatay restaurant in the town of Urubamba has orchestrated a pachamanca out of season, on a friend's farm in the picturesque Sacred Valley.

If you happened to catch the restaurant's booth at last year's H Street Festival, you probably noticed that what we are actually getting is something a bit removed from the original concept. I was lucky enough to chat briefly with a representative from the restaurant, and to sample their scallop ceviche (highly recommended) that day. More recently, Jessica Sidman of the Washington City Paper, checked in with them and got the full scoop on exactly what we're getting in Ocopa (1324 H Street). Spoiler: it involves Peruvian chicken, ceviches, some other very interesting sounding food, Peruvian cocktails, and plenty of Peruvian beers.

Indie rock band
The Soon-Another comes with a story as charming and unlikely as its synth-pop twists. Current NYU student Adele Fournet, who is currently pursuing her doctorate in ethnomusicology, formed the band with musicians Felipe Wurst and Sebastian Apolinario while working in Lima, Peru. The trio moved to New York and met their fourth member, Israeli drummer Ofer Levy, in Brooklyn. Just this month, The Soon-Another released its first album, Autodidact.
