Peru's net international reserves (NIRs) totaled US$ 64.94 billion at February 25, 2014, favoring adequate shiedling of the economy, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) of Peru has reported. 

Economy


Peruvian Minister of Economy and Finance Luis Castilla is set to participate in the inPeru roadshow USA 2014 to take place March 6-7, 2013 in the New York city.



Investment made by Israeli companies in Peru is expected to reach US$ 2 billion over the next years, the Ambassador of the Middle East nation to Peru Modi Ephraim said on Saturday.



Although informality in Peru's labor market has declined since 2005,  a majority of workers in the Andean nation are still employed in unregulated jobs, business business daily Gestion reports.



Peruvian water utility Sedapal, operating in capital Lima, is asking for expressions of interest in carrying out a consultancy tender for a project to improve water and sanitation provision services.

Mining & Energy


Focus Ventures Ltd. announce that drilling has commenced at the Bayovar 12 phosphate project. All necessary approvals for the drill program have been received from the Peruvian Authorities and two drills are currently on site.

Bayovar Mine is one of the biggest phosphate deposits in South America.


Tensions at Newmont Mining Corp's Conga project have been reduced, Peruvian Vice President Marisol Espinoza told Reuters on Saturday, but local communities still have doubts about the stalled copper gold mine.



Peru is the third-largest country in South America, with a population of 30 million and a GDP per capita of US$6,800. It is an emerging market that grew 7% a year on average in the past eight years. Unlike the U.S., before 2004, Peru had never been a significant consumer of natural gas.

The Peruvian project, the first of its kind in South America, was the one that faced major controversy over whether or not the nation should export natural gas.

 The natural gas revolution in Peru had a name, and its name was Camisea.

Camisea hydrocarbon deposits are located 500 kilometers east of Lima, Peru's capital city, in the Ucayali Basin, in the Peruvian region of Cusco, in the southcentral jungle of the country.

Diplomacy


Humala will travel to Chile to attend a farewell ceremony for outgoing president Sebastian Pi�era as well as inauguration festivities for Bachelet.  

 

Environment


The Andean city of Cusco in southern Peru has received assistance from the World Bank to strengthen local climate change adaptation planning.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has granted US$ 37 million to the regional government of Amazonas, in northern Peru, to develop and implement a comprehensive tourist corridor in the Utcubamba Valley, it was reported Saturday. 

Gastronomy



Mazamorra morada is a classic, very sweet dessert made from purple corn, dried fruit, and a tooth-melting amount of sugar. Though it's often served with a side of 'arroz con leche' (rice pudding), as shown above, it is also delicious on its own with just a sprinkling of cinnamon on top. If you've ever tasted chicha morada, then the flavor is somewhat similar, but more intense and fruity.
