Peruvian precious metals miner Buenaventura will rely more heavily on copper to boost future earnings as its gold production stalls, brokerage Inteligo SAB's chief mining analyst said.

Buenaventura, which holds 19.6% of Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold's Cerro Verde copper mine, will use the equity stake to offset declining earnings from gold.

Freeport is working on a US$4.6bn expansion of Cerro Verde which aims to triple capacity by 2016.

The ministry said that Peru's government sends its condolences to the victims, the Venezuelan people and the government, and encourages the "reestablishment of social peace in the entire country, within a framework of legitimacy and tolerance."
