Chile, Colombia, Peru and Mexico have signed a treaty to eliminate tariffs on 92 percent of goods and services. The Pacific Alliance is free trade area of some 210 million people, accounting for more than a third of all Latin American and Caribbean GDP.

 Heads of state from South America's Pacific Alliance, comprising of Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru signed a deal on Monday that will scrap nine-tenths of tariffs on goods and services traded between them. The Pacific Alliance, created in 2012, aims to integrate free markets in trade, energy and infrastructure, and bolster ties with key trading partner Asia.

 Colombia's President Juan Manuel Santos met on Monday with the leaders of Chile, Mexico and Peru to sign a major regional trade pact formed with an eye on Asian markets. "We are going to build a trade agreement of transcendent importance which will allow tariffs to be lifted on 92 percent of products," Santos said in the Colombian resort city of Cartagena.

 Costa Rica's President Laura Chinchilla on Monday signed a declaration of intent to join the Pacific Alliance, a trade bloc composed of Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. The document, signed during the bloc's 8th Summit in Cartagena, promises Costa Rica will adhere to a framework agreement for its integration as a full member of the alliance.

 Peru, the world's third largest copper producer, saw export revenue from the metal drop 17% to US$920mn in December as prices and volume declined, the government said. Total metals export revenue fell 18.4% to $1.94bn in December, cutting Peru's monthly trade surplus to US$480mn from US$880mn a year earlier as the country's total exports fell 9.4% to US$3.63bn, the country's central bank said today in a statement posted on its website.

The ICJ border ruling established that the maritime border between the two countries should be established by tracing a parallel out into the sea from Border Marker Number One, which is about 320 meters inland. However, the land border has historically sloped towards the southwest, ending at the Punto Concordia.
