Peru's President Ollanta Humala stated the Majes Siguas II project will allow to open up 38,500-hectare farmland to boost the country's southern development by generating hydropower and 200,000 new jobs.

 Peruvian banks expect a rebound in loan growth in 2014, as the Andean country's gross domestic product should post a stronger expansion that will boost demand for banking services, industry executives said. Peru's banking sector posted a 12% increase in loans in 2013, compared with an almost 16% increase in 2012 and about 17% in 2011, according to private-sector banking association Asbanc.

 The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the world's biggest bank by assets, has set up shop in Peru, the latest Chinese firm to enter the Andean market. The ICBC received authorization from Peru's banking regulator on Wednesday, allowing the Chinese bank to open its office and start doing business. Eduardo Patsias, the corporate banking manager in Peru for ICBC, said that the company will first focus on corporate clients. It aims to provide loans worth $100 million in its first year in business in Peru.

 A group led by China Minmetals Corp. is nearing an agreement to purchase Glencore Xstrata Plc's Las Bambas copper project in Peru for more than $5 billion, according to people with knowledge of the matter. A deal between Minmetals, China's biggest state-owned metals trader, and Baar, Switzerland-based Glencore could be announced as early as this month.

 Inca One announce the company has begun construction on a significant performance and capacity upgrade to its Chala One gold milling facility located in Chala, Peru. This upgrade will mark a 100% increase to the current 25TPD capacity and allows the company to process up to 50 TPD. Under the formalization process Chala One can be permitted to scale up to 350TPD.

 Peru's agriculture ministry (Minag) is developing a project to build an irrigation system in Pisacoma, in Chucuito province. The project contemplates the construction of a dam, an uptake, main canal and side canals in addition to providing technical support to local agriculture producers.

It may not glitter like gold, but it tantalises in so many ways. The textile is woven from camelid wood and cotton.
