Alterra Power Corp. completed a joint venture with Philippines-based Energy Development Corp. (EDC) that covers the rest of Alterra's geothermal assets in Peru.
As part of the agreement, EDC will get a 70 percent interest in the development asset portfolio and will fund all of the next $6 million of development costs. The next activities under these concessions include advanced exploration activities designed to identify the best locations for power plant development and construction.

 Peru plans to cut its coca crop, the world's largest, in half as police increase eradication of the plant that forms the base ingredient of cocaine, the government's drugs czar said. Eradication will reduce the crop to 32,000 hectares (79,000 acres) by 2016, the lowest in at least a decade, curbing exports of cocaine to countries such as Brazil and Spain, Carmen Masias told reporters in Lima today.

 Peru said it is gradually reducing the area of illegally grown coca leaf, the raw material for cocaine, as the government tries to cut down on exports of the drug. The overall area under cultivation for coca leaf in the country fell by about 10% last year to 54,360 hectares, Carmen Masias, the head of government antidrug agency Devida, said Wednesday during a meeting with the foreign press.

The Peruvian deal marks the first time Israel-based Armoza has sold a format into the South American territory.

 The Football Association have confirmed England will play friendlies against Peru, Ecuador and Honduras ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Peru will provide the opposition at Wembley on May 30 before England head to Miami's Sunlife Stadium for the games against Ecuador and Honduras.

 A journalist at a regional Sunday title evaded prison guards to secure an exclusive interview with one of the British women jailed in Peru for drug smuggling. Reporter Patricia Devlin, of the Sunday Lifein Belfast, managed to gain entry to the jail where the so-called Peru 2 are being held, despite journalists being banned from visiting them. She then conducted a three-hour interview with Michaella McCollum, beating the nationals to a story which has since been followed up across the UK and Irish media.
