Peru will attract US$ 2,5 billion in hotel investments in 2019 driven by the significant growth in tourist flow, especially for the Pan American Games to be held in Lima 2019, the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) said.

Perenco and PetroVietnam Exploration Production have begun heavy crude production at Peru block 67 in northern region Loreto with investment to date of US$712mn.
The work begins development of reserves in the eastern part of the Mara��n basin and is strategically located for crude transport, state hydrocarbons promotion agency Perupetro reported. Proven reserves are estimated at 100Mb.

Peru's Ministry of Culture (MINCU) has issued a report that blocks, at least temporarily, the expansion of the country's biggest gas project in the Amazon rainforest in a Reserve set aside for the protection of isolated indigenous peoples.
One of the reasons given by MINCU is that the company leading the expansion of the Camisea gas project, Pluspetrol, wants to conduct 3D seismic tests in a region which it 'assumes' - on the basis of its own fieldwork and previous studies - is inhabited by indigenous Machiguenga people who live in 'isolation' from outsiders and are at 'high risk' from introduced diseases to which they have little or no immunity.

 Peruvian literary hero and former presidential candidate Mario Vargas Llosa has found success in his home nation once again with his latest book, "El Heroe Discreto" ("The Discrete Hero"). Vargas Llosa, 77, was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2010. "El Heroe Discreto" is his first novel since receiving that honor. After writing a number of books set in different parts of the world, "El Heroe Discreto" marks Vargas Llosa's return to Peru as a setting for his fiction. The story unfolds in Lima and Piura, and deals with the dark side of the rapid economic development that Peru has undergone in recent years.
