The agreements were signed in the presence of Peruvian President Ollanta Humala and his Ecuadorian counterpart, Rafael Correa, at the end of the day-long talks in Peru's northern coastal city of Piura.

Peru and Ecuador concluded their 7th Binational Cabinet Meeting on Thursday with the signing of six bilateral agreements on issues ranging from health and energy to security cooperation.

Economy

Peruvian exports to India rose to US$458 million between January and September this year, up 125 per cent from the same period last year, Peru's Exporter Association (ADEX) said Thursday.

The Latin America Development Bank (CAF) will support the productive development of metal-mechanic, garment and alpaca clothing sectors in the Arequipa region, currently the second largest economy in Peru.

Seamstresses in Lima's garment district are usually busy at this time of year, with Christmas requests from vendors across the Americas. Cheap Chinese imports however are ruining their market.

Until recently the district -- a 20-block area, packed with 25,000 clothing manufacturers and vendors, known as the Gamarra business emporium -- was doing thriving business.

But ever since a free-trade agreement between Peru and China came into effect in 2010, and similar agreements have been signed with Colombia and others, Gamarra merchants have been hemorrhaging customers.

Energy

Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) is currently reviewing two PV project proposals with a combined capacity of 110 MW, according to local newspaper La Republica.  Energy Renovable and Energia Renovable Ilo- Moquegua SAC have submitted project proposals to build PV plants with a capacity of 50 MW and 60 MW, respectively, along the Pan-American Highway in the south of the country.

Diplomacy

The elimination of Europe's visa requirements for Peruvians and Colombians will not cause a "stampede" of Peruvians seeking jobs, but it will create an opportunity for to learn about other realities, Peru's foreign minister, Eda Rivas, said Wednesday at a forum organized by Agencia Efe.

The governments of Brazil and Peru have signed an agreement to reduce the price of fixed and mobile calls made in towns on both sides of the border between the two nations.

Education

A high-level delegation from Peruvian private university San Ignacio de Loyola (USIL) visited Beijing, China last week to strengthen cooperation ties with the Peking University (PKU).

Led by Raul Diaz Canseco and Edward Roekaert, founder and president of USIL respectively, the delegation met with PKU Vice President Li Yansong on November 4 to discuss cooperation in the education field.

It's the same question asked by all parents everywhere. Where should we send our kids to school? It's an important one. When you're kids are all grown and blaming you for their social insecurities and pretty much every other problem they have, you'll at least be able to say that you sent them to the right school.

Gastronomy

The memory of the lauded Peruvian chef Ivan Kisic, who was killed last year in a traffic accident, lives on in his beautiful restaurant where attention to detail is everything.

Culinary satisfaction is never guaranteed by a restaurant's high profile, celebrity chef, media plaudits, lengthy reservations nor packed venues. It's not until your first bite into the food that you will...

Amid the current crop of Japanese and "progressive" cuisines in Bangkok, I unexpectedly found true gastronomic delight at a low-profile restaurant offering authentic food from... uhh... Peru.

Tourism

"ˇArriba, abajo, al centro, pa' dentro!" Those aren't typically the words runners chant after a tough hike up a steep mountain, but on a recent Saturday in sunny San Jeronimo de Surco, a mountain town an hour-and-a-half east of Lima, that´s exactly what the group sang before gulping down a shot of pisco neat.

Miscellaneous

Peru is considering a series of anti-corruption bills which could see among other measures more elected officials and civil servants prosecuted for graft and bank secrecy protection lifted, Transparency International (TI) has said.

Diamonds are a girl's best friend? Apparently so. In Peru, at least.

The luxury market is on the rise in Peru... and with it, the purchase of diamonds.

We've been hearing recently how Peru is getting more luxurious. Peruvians are buying bigger T.V.s, hotels are getting fancier, and now we discover that Peruvians love diamonds. Love them.

Two teachers from the UK have overtaken the current world record for the longest journey in a tuk tuk / auto-rickshaw while crossing Northern Peru. Educational campaigners Nick Gough and Richard Sears have travelled 37,500km around the world, supporting grassroots education projects in Africa, Asia and South America and raising awareness for the Global Campaign for Education. The final leg through South America will involve negotiating the cold temperatures, high altitude and narrow roads of the Andes before reaching the finish line in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in December.

Anderson Cooper's comments about Miss Peru have gotten him into trouble.

Last Wednesday, the CNN host completely lost it during his "RidicuList" segment on "AC 360" while attempting to describe Miss Peru's costume from the Miss Universe pageant. Cooper was unable to control his laughter once he saw the "little old man baby" attached to the shoulder of contestant Cindy Mejia's costume.
