Peruvian government plans to award eight investment projects worth up to US$ 7.4 billion in the next two months through public-private partnerships (PPP), showing the growing interest of domestic and foreign capitals in the country.

Peru's central bank surprised the market on Thursday by cutting the benchmark interest rate for the first time in more than four years in a bid to spur economic growth and ward off an extended slowdown.

Andina news agency reports that a delegation of French business people visiting Peru were impressed by the forward movement and significant growth in the Peruvian economy.



In a new project, the region of Huancavelica expects to produce more than 1,200 kilos of vicu�a fiber in 2014. There are close to 12,000 families working with almost 23,400 vicu�as in the region.

The vicu�a, one of the more diminutive members of the camelid family, is well-known for the quality of its wool. They were declared an endangered species in 1974, when only about 6,000 were left. They have been protected by law since Inca times. 

 

Mining & Energy


Estrella Gold said that its joint venture partner, Cliffs Natural Resources, has started exploration work at their Yana project in Peru, with the Canadian junior company saying the project has the potential to host a significant copper deposit. 



Energy developer Latin America Power (LAP) has outlined plans to add 1GW of installed capacity in Chile and Peru by 2018.

Peru will comprise 350MW and Chile 650MW in new projects, LAP's commercial manager Maur�cio Caama�o said during the 10th BNamericas Southern Cone Energy Summit in Lima on Thursday. 

 



Peru's government has issued an "ultimatum" to small-scale artisanal miners in southern Puno region, saying that if they do not remove their dredges and other equipment from the watersheds of the Ramis and Suches rivers (which both flow into Lake Titicaca), they will be dynamited. 



Mining commissioner says that illegal mining in the region "has its days numbered" thanks to new enforcement and policing techniques.

Illegal miners in Puno will face increased police pressure to cease their informal mining activities.

Bilateral relations between Peru and Kuwait have gained momentum in recent years thanks to the increasing number of high-level visits from both sides.
According to Peruvian Ambassador to Kuwait Heli Pelaez Castro, bilateral ties started to witness a positive momentum in terms of greater cooperation and closer friendship after the government of Peru reopened its embassy in the Arab nation in 2011.


President Ollanta Humala Tasso has received the credentials from three newly appointed ambassadors and the new head of the European Union Delegation to Peru.

Eight groups have prequalified for Peru's US$715mn Chavimochic multipurpose irrigation project,  private investment development agency Proinversion said in a statement.

Scientists, technologists, academics and entrepreneurs are meeting this week in Lima for the annual "Per� con Ciencia" science fair, which is organized by Peru's council for science, technology and IT innovation Concytec.

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, or BMZ, will provide Peru with 77.9 million euros in the coming years to be used for measures to adapt to climate change and to protect the environment and biodiversity.

A Peruvian court on Thursday postponed for the third time a hearing in the trial of former President Alberto Fujimori, who is accused of buying editorial lines of tabloids.

Judge Aissa Mendoza suspended the hearing 10 minutes into it, saying she was being summoned to an assembly by the higher judicial authority. The hearing was rescheduled for Nov. 14.
