According to Peru's Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, the ICA for best cocoa in South America is the result of Arprocat's coordinated work with public and private sector organizations.
 
 

Cocoa producers from Peru's northern Tumbes region have won an International Cocoa Award (ICA) at the recent Salon du Chocolat in Paris.  

Economy


The National Industrial Development Plan (PNDI) is expected to include proposals aimed at both stimulating the emerging industrial sector and removing barriers to investment, the National Society of Industries (SNI) has reported.

Mining & Energy


Southern Copper, the largest copper producer in Peru and Mexico, presented to the Peruvian government a new environmental impact study (EIS) for its US$1bn T�a Mar�a copper project, the company said.

The Phoenix, Arizona-based company sent the new study to Peru's energy and mining ministry (MEM) after holding two public workshops with local communities last month. 


Peru's Minister of Energy and Mines, Jorge Merino, confirmed Tuesday that Jiangxi Copper, China's largest copper producer, has submitted a bid for Glencore Xstrata's Las Bambas project. While Merino minister did not specify whether the offer came from Jiangxi Copper Group or its publicly traded unit Jiangxi Copper Co. Ltd, La Republica (in Spanish) quoted him Tuesday as saying the sale of the $5.2 billion mine will likely happen before the 2014 deadline. 



Silver Wheaton Corp. has signed a deal to acquire half of the gold produced by Hudbay Minerals Inc. at the Constancia mining project, currently under construction in southern Peru.

Constancia is being developed at an estimated cost of US$1.5 billion primarily as a copper mine but it will also produce gold and silver.



For the first time ever, Peru will be taking part in the most important mining conference in the world, Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC-2014).

The Peruvian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Peru's Mines and Energy Ministry announced Oct. 28 that Peru will be the first country to sponsor the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) conference in Peru's Mines and Energy Ministry next year. 

Environment


In Lima, Peru, the 17 Latin American and Caribbean signatory countries to a declaration promoting access to information, participation and justice in environmental matters agreed on a shared vision of the values that should inspire a future regional agreement or instrument on the subject.
Law Enforcement


The Peruvian Interior Ministry has received the first of four twin-engine Eurocopter EC145 helicopters that are set to modernize the fleet of the National Police of Peru.These new aircraft-the first units of this model to reach Peru-will be stationed at the Police Aviation Unit's main base, from where they will perform public security missions as well as disaster relief throughout the country. The remaining three helicopters will be delivered before the end of the year. 



Seven new decentralized police bases will be established in Peru to combat crimes such as illegal mining, Interior Minister Wilfredo Pedraza said Tuesday.

"The government will set up seven new police bases in the country's north, south, eastern and central regions to fight a rise in crime and improve security," Pedraza said during an address to the Congressional Defense Committee.

LIF Week is back to delight the eyes and fill the closets of fashionistas everywhere.

This year, Peru's annual celebration of haute couture will take place from Nov. 5 to Nov. 7 at the Casa Prado in Miraflores. 16 different designers will present their pieces during three days.

Included in the lineup are some of Peru's most well-known and critically acclaimed designers. Jessica Butrich and Sitka Semsch, whose shows will take place on Nov. 5 and Nov. 6, respectively, were recently invited to present collections at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Madrid.

Though the four designers that presented their works tonight had a wide range of styles, they certainly shared a flair for spectacle.

The Peruvian government believes it has a diplomatic solution to a spirited problem.

The problem? Not enough Americans are familiar with pisco, a Peruvian liquor that has been riding a popular wave of trendy South American cuisines to become an up-and-comer on the cocktail scene. The solution? Appoint 10 U.S. bartenders to serve as official pisco ambassadors for the grape brandy.

Culture

The Peruvian government is working on the consolidation of a universal health system that includes cancer care, PresidentOllanta Humala said when opening the 5th International Cancer Control Congress in Lima on Monday.

"This government has started down an irreversible path toward the consolidation of a universal health system that includes cancer care," said Humala, who was accompanied by Peruvian Health Minister Midori De Habich. 



The Peruvian government will launch a policy of universal healthcare provision for children aged 0-3 years as of January next year, with special emphasis on tackling malnutrition and anemia. 



New law would make it easier for immigrants to obtain legal residence and work permits.

A recent proposal seeks to create a new body of laws to govern foreign immigration to Peru.
