Peru's copper production up in August
Peru's output of copper and precious metals increased year-on-year in August, while production of lead and zinc fell.
Copper output for August 2013 was up 16.7% year-on-year, to 132,098 tonnes, according to Peru's energy and mining ministry. Compa�ia Minera Antamina's output stood at 47,471 tonnes for the month, up by 12.8% year-on-year.

Vice President Hamid Ansari will pay an official visit to Peru, Cuba and the United Kingdom from October 25 to November 2.
Vice President Ansari's visits to Peru and Cuba will be the first ever Indian visit at the vice presidential level.
The Vice President will be in Peru from October 26 to October 29, and is expected to hold a comprehensive dialogue with his counterpart Marisol Espinoza Cruz.

Peruvians will be able to travel to Europe without a Schengen visa, if a EU parliamentary commission's motion is approved.
The commission approved a motion to exempt the visa requirement for Peruvians and Colombians. The exemption of a visa would be for individuals from the two South American nations that visit one of the 26 European nations for a maximum time of 90 days.

A brand new flu virus has been found in Peruvian bats, according to a new study from researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The virus, called A/bat/Peru/10, belongs to a family of flu viruses known as influenza A, which mainly infect birds, but can also infect other animals, including people.

Both cities appeared on the top 77 list (based on international online voting) released late last week. They will demand the greater prominence of indigenous women at every level of decision-making and will call upon governments to dedicate funding to attend to the specific needs of indigenous women.

Festejo, quite possibly the oldest and most popular Afro-Peruvian dances, began in the central coast of Peru. Today dance classes from New York to London teach this type of dance, while Afro-Peruvian singer Susana Baca and the group Peru Negro has helped this type of dance to reach global markets. But it wasn't always this way.
Festejo, which means celebration, is a highly energetic and sensual dance that even allows the dancers to improvise. The dancers follow the rhythm of the Cajon, guitar and other instruments.

A stream of brightly-coloured butterflies have been spotted smothering the heads of turtles as they try and drink their tears.
The strange sight occurs because the orange Julia butterflies and yellow Sulphur butterflies require the nutritional benefits of salt.
Being a long way from any source of sodium in the Amazon rainforest, the butterflies take advantage of the turtles' salt-rich tears and surround their heads looking for a drink.
