Service, commerce and construction were the sector that contributed the most to Peru's economic growth in the first eight months of the year, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) of Peru has reported.

A large study in the Amazon Basin, which includes parts of Brazil, Peru and Colombia, found that in this area there are approximately 390 billion trees belonging to about 16,000 different species. 

 
 

The Peruvian government has promised to investigate charges by an environmental group that the out-of-control slaughter of dolphins in Pacific coastal waters has put the ocean mammal at risk.

Floriza Reynaga, the co-owner with her brother Luis, was in the coffee-beans business in Peru but because they felt there were too many coffee shops here, it was their "dream" to open up a restaurant instead-and "we finally made it." She says they wanted to introduce Americans to "some part of our culture, and this is the food."

Luxury hotels in Peru records an average annual occupancy rate of 90 percent, due to the quality of services offered by the several brand-name hotel chains which operate in the country, the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur).

Technology

 

Peru's pay-TV sector has experienced 9% growth during last year and now 60% of Peruvian families are connected to a cable, satellite or IPTV service.

The figures come from ConcorTV's latest report and reflect pay-TV activity in 2012.

 

Ruckus Wireless announced today that Digital Way, a fast growing service provider based in Peru, is deploying Ruckus indoor and outdoor Smart Wi-Fi products to support the expansion of its popular WIGO Libre Wi-Fi service throughout Lima, the capital of and largest city in Peru, with a population of over 7.6 million.

Families spread out picnics; strolling musicians and vendors sell cotton candy, toys, flowers and food. 


 

The air force in Peru is to re-open a department dedicated to researching UFO sightings.

The South American country's Department of Investigation of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena (DIFAA) will bring together air force personnel, sociologists, archaeologists and astronomers to analyse sightings to see how often they occur, where and at what times.

 

Peru's government said it is to take additional measures to improve road safety after several deadly bus accidents this month highlighted the dangers of its highways and roads, state news agency Andina reported.
