The financial entity stressed Peru is expected to be the first fastest-growing economy in Latin America and the Caribbean.
 
 

Peru is expected to record an Asian rate of growth of 5.5 percent this year, which makes it the country which better performance in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Peruvian exports of fruit totaled US$ 702 million between January and August 2013, a 15.2 percent increase over the same period last year, the Peruvian Exporters' Association (Adex) has reported.

According to figures from Business Intelligence System Adex Data Trade, the amount recorded was due to a rise in demand from the Netherlands and the United States. 


 

Citigroup issued the first letter of credit denominated in the Chinese yuan in Peru, making the US-based bank the first issuer of such trade finance instrument in Latin America, the lender said in a statement.  


 

The Pacific Alliance (Spanish: Alianza del Pac�fico) is a Latin American trade bloc, with some features of further integration. Its current member states are Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico and Peru. The organization's goals include free trade and economic integration among the member states, as well as a visa-free travel area, a common stock exchange, and common diplomatic representation.

Chinese lead shortlist for Glencore's $5.9 bln Peru mine

Two groups of Chinese miners, in partnerships that will pit giant Chinalco against rival Minmetals, lead a shortlist of suitors for Glencore Xstrata's $5.9 billion Las Bambas copper mine in Peru, according to sources involved in the process.  


LionGold Corp and Minera IRL cease talks on potential takeover

Singapore-listed gold miner LionGold Corp has ceased talks with Minera IRL over a proposed private placement and a potential takeover for the Peruvian gold miner.

Peru's President Ollanta Humala held a one-on-one meeting with France's President Fran�ois Hollande at the Elys�e Palace in Paris to address several issues of the bilateral and multilateral agenda between both States. 


 

French President Francois Hollande and his Peruvian counterpart Ollanta Humala Tasso expressed here on Wednesday their willingness to further cement ties between the two countries.

According to a statement released by the president's office, both leaders vowed to reinforce bilateral economic exchanges and strengthen cooperation mainly in transport, sustainable development, health and energy as well in cultural and academic issues.

Peru's Ashaninka Indians share the world's top coca-growing valley with drug traffickers, rebels, illegal loggers and, now, an increased military presence.

The Ashaninka are the largest indigenous group in Peru's sparsely populated Amazon region but they account for less than 1 percent of the South American country's 30 million people.

The traditional trail that goes from Ollantaytambo isn't the only route to Machu Picchu.

The journey that runs through the pass of the snow-capped Salkantay, the second tallest mountain in Cusco, is a unique five-day walk that starts from the village of Mollepata, three hours from Cusco, which takes you from the snow-capped mountains at an altitude of 4.600m to the high jungle of Machu Picchu.

Fujimori used the tabloid newspapers of the "chicha press" to try to influence public opinion.

Ex-president of Peru, Alberto Fujimori will face trial yet again for acts committed while he was in office.

This time, Fujimori is under scrutiny for his relationship with the "chicha press." The chicha press was a collection of tabloid newspapers that used sensationalism and sex appeal in order to gain attention, as well as publishing slander about Fujimori's political opponents.

For centuries, coca has been central to Andean culture and religion. But the mild stimulant chewed to fight off fatigue and altitude sickness has in recent decades become the focus of the illegal cocaine trade. 


 

A team of Belgian and Bolivian archaeologists has found more than 2,000 pieces of ceramic, gems and gold objects at an apparent ceremonial site beneath the waters of Lake Titicaca.

The most impressive of the items, some said to date back a millennium, are well-preserved puma heads carved of stone, while pieces of gold leaf were hammered into other anthropomorphic forms.

 

In mid-September, animal lovers around the world were outraged when news of a Peruvian festival celebrated with traditional cat meat dishes made the rounds.

Upon learning of the festival, many animal rights activists called for its abolition.

Now a court mandate has been handed down in Ca�ete that will prohibit the practice in the future.

The bishop of Peru's military ordinariate stepped down after a court ruling established he was the the father of a two-year-old girl.

The Vatican accepted his resignation, Juan Luis Cipriani, bishop of Lima, said Wednesday.
