One out of every four families is touched by mental illness. The challenges are daunting.

Interfaith of San Ramon Valley (I-SRV, of which BCC is a member) is working with "Feed My Starving Children," a Christian organization doing wonderful work in combating the world hunger catastrophe.

We will be hand-packing meals specifically designed for malnourished children. The food will be shipped to a country in need. This service opportunity is a great project for young, old and in between. Children over 5 years are welcome to participate and there are jobs for every level of activity.

Sign up for a two-hour shift by going to www.justservenow.org and clicking on "Volunteer to Pack."

Hunger is year-round battle. A reminder that we have a collection barrel in our lobby which is regularly picked up for distribution for those in need in our community.

MILESTONES

YAHRZEIT CANDLES
In our tradition, we say of loved ones who have died, "May their memory be a blessing" and mark this ongoing process of turning memory into blessing by lighting a yahrzeit candle and reciting the Mourner's Kaddish on the anniversary of their death. We will send you a reminder card two weeks before the anniversary of your loved one's passing and hope that you will consider attending Shabbat services to honor their memory.

A yahrzeit candle is available for you to pick up at the Beth Chaim office at no charge for your observance.

Thank you to Judith Markowitz and Glen Schabacker for underwriting the Yahrzeit program.

IN OUR GARDEN

May has come and gone, and the garden is slowly growing. We've started small this year - tomatoes, beans, potatoes, squash, herbs, and strawberries - for two reasons: to keep our water footprint small during the drought, and to test soil and drainage conditions in the garden. As you gardeners out there know, a little trial, a little error, and a little success is all part of gardening-as-usual.

FREE SEEDLINGS! Our Religious School children planted a lot of seeds during the spring, and many of those seeds have sprouted. If you would like to adopt some seedlings, please come on over to the Temple and pick some up for your garden. There are tomatoes, peas, herbs, kale, and more. The seedlings can be found soaking up the sunshine on the patio just outside the kitchen door.

To see what's happening in our garden, check out our YouTube video and subscribe to our channel. Click below for May's update:
